Almost 7 feet across, double geared, weighs in at least a couple thousand, its heavy !!!! pole holders are 4x4, I mean 6 could turn it........ also the original owners family bought it as a 6 team sweep

That looks to be a Dingee Woodbury. Other companies, including Case sold them to go with threshers. I have seen two locally at shows working and there is the wood parts of another locally, the iron was scrapped during WWII. I saw the iron parts of another (wood rotted away) sold at Martin's Hillpipre, Independence, Iowa auction in 1976.

The big ring gear has teeth on top and on bottom and the slanting gear has a pinion at each end which the big ring gear drives. The center of that shaft has the large spur gear which meshes with a pinion on the tumbling rod shaft. Several lengths of tumbling rod with universal joints go to the thresher which has a bevel gear pair to drive the cylinder shaft.

It would have a nice wood platform with a box over the spur gear which made a good perch on which the teamster would stand to monitor the teams.

Other pictures on this forum show the Dingee Woodbury in good detail. I did not mention that it has double gearing at each end of the slant shaft with two more pinions with short shafts so that the top and the bottom of the big ring gear, both, drive the slant shaft at each end.

This thread, post 2 has excellent movies of the complete machine setup in action. Several threads here should be combined.
