You might try a PM to Tom S. or Mark Shulaw, here on the Stak. I do not know of a coil winder that does the WICO coils for a 'tag.

Thanks Andrew,

I appreciate your help!

stitch, people have gone through the maytag coil problem a zillion times here on the stack ,the bottom line is get on e bay and order a new coil from zack i know its expensive ,but in the end its probably the fastest and best way to go.

Hi Clement,
good advice, We went through that before. A member here is selling me a
new, old stock coil. Great people here. You are on that list especially as you saved us with the rods on our other 72!
Take care,
Stitch

Hi Guys,
Here it is running. It's a really strong runner with great compression. Everything is nice and tight. The tank was sludge filled and the check valve was missing the screen which let the inlet valve and governor get packed with crud.

After clean up, new check valve and the new coil, It only took 2 or 3 kicks for the first start. We will be taking it back apart for a total clean up, keeping the original paint.

We got it in a trade deal along with another 72-D and a 92. Thank you everyone for your great advice and thank you Mike for the coil!

Thumbs up Re: Maytag 72 Wico coil needed

At last contact, Zach did not have the WICO coils, just the Eissmans (72 DA)

The WICO uses a totally different coil.

Stitchwizzard, Tom S is one of the Maytag Gurus here on the forum. Glad you got it running!

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the heads up! I need a 72 Wico cam for another set up we have.
I just checked with Mark. He says they have all disappeared!
I hope I find one, I hate the thought of a nice Wico set up sitting there, not running.

I think I might have bought the last or nearly the last Wico coil from Zach in Portland a few months ago. I'm sure he'll be making more before too long.

Stitch, I sent Tom S a PM about your timing cam. If I get a reply, I will let you know. If worse comes to worse, you can always replace the entire mag assembly off another engine. The crank and block mounts are all the same. you would have to replace the backing plate and mag assembly, the timing cam and the flywheel off a junk engine. Eismann D or DA and WICO, they all fit as an assembly onto the 72 block. You cannot mix and match parts though. They have to remain specific to type (D, DA, or WICO) it would all fit on your good block if necessary.

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for all of your help! We got it running finally.
Here's the video. Great little engine, starts on one or two kicks after a closed cap prime kick. Thanks again all!!
