Default Maytag 92 Carb Gasket

I have an issue where fuel is leaking between the carb body and fuel tank. I have tried gaskets from both Mark and Zack but still have seepage. Any ideas?

Sorta normal for these engines, What I try and to is, with good gaskets in place, and all 4 of the screws somewhat ran up, is to push down on the top of the carb and tighten the screws. It won't completely eliminate seepage but will certainly limit it.

Make sure the threads in the block aren't pulled and that the carb face is flat. When people see a leak they tend to crank on the screws, which will bend the carb metal. You might also try putting a little shellac type gasket sealer (like Indian Head) on the gasket. DON'T use RTV - the gas will eat it and make a mess!

Hi Smitty, Pat has part of the right idea to tap down on the carb to make sure its set down on the base portion of the gasket. It is an occasional thing to find that a slightly thicker gasket is needed to get the base portion to seal. The usual gasket I supply is about .030ths thick. In this case If its needed I have thicker carb gaskets to take care of this. Give me a holler 4one9.3five8.5206 by chance Thanks! Mark S.

Tapping down on the carb should be done on every one to make sure they are down as much as possible. I set a piece of wood down in the inside corner of the carb and drive toward the corner, this works pretty good. Some times too the holes for the carb screws never got cleaned out adequately when new so just cleaning up the screw openings can give the needed additional to allow the carb to drop down enough to seal properly.

A good gasket sealer compound is Tite Seal from Radiator Specialty Co. Just smear a film of this on the gasket. It never gets hard, so disassembly later on isn't any issue. May save tearing the gasket also.
