Default Coolspring 2012 Ohio Engine Trivia

You out there in engine land have been doing a great job answering the Ohio Built Engine trivia. Keep up the great work. The correct answer to the last question was Foos Street and the link to the map was great. After the quick answer, I posted additional related questions for which there were no responses. John Foos's father General Joseph Foos advocated moving the state capitol from Chillicothe to a more central location on the high ground east of the Scioto River, where Columbus the new state capital was laid out. He was awarded a choice home site on High Street in recognition of his efforts and Foos Street named in his honor.

Now for the new trivia question: Let's develop a list of single cylinder, horizonal engines built in Ohio, which have a crankcase/mainframe/bedplate with three main bearings. Free-standing outboard bearings as used on oil field engines do not belong on the list. Let's see how many you can come up with. I will compile your answers and post the list next month.

Dave: Good job on the Trivia. As with Coolspring Trivia the purpose is not to stump those out in engine land but to do a little educating. By such post collector's may learn some new information about Engines built in Ohio and in the process we may find out information that is new to us also. I would love to see you get a reply from the owner of a Shawd. The Elyria can be seen on page 149 of the yellow book. May be Terry Tanner can post a picture of the Springfield Gearless.

I was so enamored with watching the Gearless run that I didn't notice the 3rd main bearing until I watched the video again. I don't think I have a good enough video of the Elyria in the Susong Building to show that detail.

The Gearless Springfield looks just as good in person as it does in the video! Jason
