Default Re: Autolite generator voltage change question

Kenny:

-Theoretically- a 6 volt generator can be made to put out 12 volts but at the risk of cooking the field coils.

I had a '54 International pickup that half the time, wouldn't charge. What I found out was that someone had subbed a 12 volt generator to use with the 6-volt regulator.

It could be made to work but sometimes had to be flashed to charge.

I subbed the 6 volt generator from a '50 chevy engine and it worked fine. (the generators were the same).

Take care - Elden
