I took a minute to photo this pulley.
it is a 21 inch demount-able wheel from a 26 T car. I doubt the car would be driven very far with this installed. The owner probably would have just putt putted around the farm in low gear. This is hub, brake drum and all. I have no knowledge of the history of this as it was just handed to me 1 day at a tech session with the model T club I am in. They know I gather odd stuff!. |

Growing up on a farm in southern MO in the 1970s, I remember seeing several small sawmills that were made from old cars. NOT just for cutting a log into firewood; we used chainsaws for that. These were real sawmills that could cut a sawlog into planking of various sizes and shaped to build a barn or a house. In one case, a Model T was pretty much stripped of everything but the engine, transmission, drive shaft, differential, and one wheel where the saw blade was installed. In the other case, some old 40s car had been more modified - the engine was bolted sideways and I don't know why the engine was moved.

My grand-pals Turner sawmill that is still down behind his house was run by a 50's 223 6 cylinder Ford car engine and transmission. The chassis was cut behind the trans,it was in 2'd gear.A throttle lever mounted on the main 1 to make the carriage move accelerated the engine when the saw hit wood. From what I understand the previous owner of the mill set it up this way using the wrecked car with low miles as a power unit back in the late 50's and it was used at his place until the early 70's when grand-pal got it. It was run until about 1990 and grand-pal got sick and I don't guess it has been run much since.

Tom, you might want to check that out. Guys are paying good money for a rust spot on the ground, then restoring it. That car might be worth something.
