Default Tiny Tim Battery Charger

Thanks for the replies when I posted about this unit a few months ago. I took off the gas tank and carb for cleaning and found what appears to be original pale green paint underneath, if that means anything. I jumped the unit using a car battery to the pos/neg posts on the side, pushed the relay in and it fired right up. Removing the jumper cables, it would run on its on for a couple of minutes, then shut itself down. I got 9 - 11.8 volts output on the post side, but no voltage on the wires beneath the relay on the other side. Any ideas on how this thing is supposed to be hooked up to the starting battery and the batteries being charged?
Thanks,
Kevin in Wilmington, NC

I got home from work this afternoon and tinkered with this unit some more. I disconnected the cutout relay and hooked a 6V battery directly to the coil, started it with a rope on the pulley and got no output voltage, though it was running fine. Touching the disconnected wire back to the cutout relay caused the relay to close contacts itself and I got crazy jumping voltage readings on the posts on the other side. I only did this for a few seconds so I hope I didn't fry anything. Electricity is not one of my strong points. Still hoping to get this thing figured out. Whether it works or not, its still good to hear this little engine running.

Kevin-

I found a reference to Army Technical Manuial TM-5-5365, for the Tiny Tim Generator. It may have been posted here last year.

I did a quick search, but was not able to find a copy of that TM on line.

At the time, I downloaded several photos, including pages from the TM. I am attaching two here, in case they might apply to your battery charger.

Fred,
Thanks for the wiring diagrams. Maybe I'll get it figured out now.
Thanks,
Kevin

Is this the same thing as the Montgomery Wards Airline generator? I have 1 and have wanted a diagram for a long time.I hope it is the same or at least similar enough.

I saw one like yours at Denton this summer but it looked to be in pretty sad shape. Here's a photo of mine.

I may be mistaken, but I think that is a Delco "Little Joe" battery charging generator. While similar in appearance, they are two different animals.

Hi I was wondering if you could convert a 6 volt tiny tim generator to charge a 12 volt battery by changing the voltage regulator? Thanks.
