Question Delco-lite battery voltage???

Working on a 1 1/4 kw Delco-lite 32 volt...What volt battery hooks to the "battery negitive & positive post? Is it also 32 volts? or 6 volts to crank the unit?...It does not have a separate starter motor on this unit, so I assume it starts with voltage applied to the armature?

32 Volts! actual charging voltage will reach about 37. If you undre voltage the batteries, you will burn them out. overvoltage them, and you may burn relays. 8 Volt bateries are available from a good battery source (goulds, exxide etc. They are used in electric riding mowers made by GE (you need 4).

Andrew, are you sure that it CRANKS on 32 volts? .....I know the working voltage is 32 volts, but some of these only used 6 or 8 volts to crank them.

By the way, Have you got your shorts caught in any flywheels lately?

David;

The posts that have battery + and battery - is where you attach a 32 volt battery. The line voltage goes through these posts through a relay, so the line voltage and the generator start voltage works off of part of that. You will note that the line voltage comes off of different posts than the battery. The line still draws it's current from the batteries as does the start windings in the generator.

Thanks Don!...Just wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna burn something up!...But I see now that it DOES feed off of the same curcuit...I just didn't follow the schematic far enough..It's obvious that I know just enough about electricity to get in trouble ...Thanks to everybody for the help.
