The lugs on the german helmet look like the 1916 pattern stalhelm. My vote is WWI

What's the deal? Why, he's observing proper safety precautions of course, with his hard-hat around dangerous equipment! And what better way to do it than with a antique hard-hat as opposed to one of the modern plastic thingy's?
