Default Water Pump no water Fairbanks Morse

Hello all
Our fairbanks morse water pump BARELY pumps water The impeller shaft moves in and out about 1/2 inch how do i make it pump better (tighten) it up short of tearing it off and screwing up the pattena worse than i have?Thank Lowboy

What type of engine is this on?

Is it on a Vertical Fairbanks?
