While Bill's on the subject here's Rynda's Small Nic. The big one is in Iowa. This engine is currently cosmetically restored. I have no idea what year or HP it is. I've heard everything from 6-12 and everything from 1883-89. I do believe this engine was one one of his relatives. The pic was taken by Dave Pruehs approx 3 years ago. It hasn't shown up to a show since.

We have an accurate flue count! 35! If measurement of the boiler was right, the boiler itself is about 5 ft long, the whole engine is about 12 foot long. And If I remember right, feildman7u may have to correct me, but the distance across the smoke box was about 27 or 27.5 inches. Does this help pinpoint an exact hp rating? A homemade sign says 1884 10hp but just trying to make sure

ok, to bump this thread up, and update the story, I was able to purchase this engine from the family. Got a surprise along with it in the way of some pictures from back in the day when it was being used on a crew. Their family has it written down in old bookkeeping ledgers as being purchased in the spring of 1881, and as being listed as a 10 horse. as listed above by bill Thurman it was indeed bought as a portable and had a traction kit added to it on the farm by the factory reps later on.

I am short several parts and am actively on the hunt. does anyone know of anyone who has parts for one this old, or of one that someone would be willing to let me look over, photo, measure, ect? She's gonna be a JOB for sure to put back to rights, and my wife is currently questioning my sanity.

I'll try to add the old photos I got along with her. Interestingly enough, it shows a square head tank on her...
