Default Where are all of the 20 hp Reeves?

Well, we have found the 32's, time for the 20's-especially in light of the one just shipped to England.

I've noticed an interesting trend of 20 hp Reeves being owned by people named "Mike." One has to wonder

#5625, Mike from England
Mike Yaeger, MT
#7981, Mike Kennedy, WY (he calls it the "Red Tag Special" and Mike McKnight is a former owner)

Let us begin the list with SN's.

Thanks
Beth

Badger Steam & Gas Engine Club has a 20hp simple Reeves.

Beth,
This is 20hp Reeves ds #5187 with MIKE at left and his partner, cousin Randy at right.

I think I'll post some pictures of 20hp Reeves engines that should be "somewhere" or unknown serial numbers.

This one is the one of the left, a 20hp ds EB engine that used to be owned by the late Lester Lindenmier. Doris' 16hp is at right.

This is the 20hp ds Canadian Special, at this time, owned by the late Doris Lindenmeir.

This is Nolan's 20hp ds Canadian Special. Gary

This was the late Butch Eaton's 20hp EB US ds, #7981. Of course Mike McKnight bought it from Butch and like you said, it is now owned by Mike Kennedy in Wyoming.

This is a 20hp cross compound, like the one on its way across the pond, that used to set in West Yellowstone, Montana. I took this picture as a grade schooler. Austin Monk had contact with the man who bought it and moved it to (?) Arizona(?). This engine pulled all of the stumps from the forest land cleared to make an airport at West Yellowstone by engine owner Herklas Rightenour in 1932.

This is the Smeal family's 20hp ds US #7720 in Nebraska.

This is another 20hp ds US owned by the Smeal family, but I don't have a serial number for it. Notice the two 20hp ds engines in this picture don't have the same EB smokebox doors. Gary

I don't know if I can find the picture I have of the Smeal's 20hp 20hp cross compound. It's (the picture) somewhere here in Helena.

This is our MIKE McKnight on a 20hp ds Canadian Special at one of the museums in Canada. Maybe someone up there can help us with with a serial number. That's the only "living" example of an operating Reeves Steam Lift Plow behind the engine, at least as I am aware of anyway.

I also have a picture of the late Haston L. St.Clair's and the late Lyle Hoffmaster's 20hp Reeves ds US and I'll let that family report their engine's serial number and post a photo, unless they really want me to do that for them.

Actually, I've wished 200,000 times in my life I could still go back and touch this 20hp Reeves again, but sadly it was scrapped in 1948, so I barely remember climbing around on it. What the heck... it needed a new set of flues anyway. This is my "Namesake" here on Smokstak; Dad's 20hp Reeves Canadian Special double simple (the only way they were sold) Highwheeler... in front. The rear engine is a 32hp ds Canadian Special. Gary

This is the 20hp Reeves cc #5784 owned by the Smeal Family.

This is a 20hp Reeves US cc that was once owned by my good friend, the late Oscar O. Cooke. I don't know where this engine went? This engine has an EB smokebox door, but it has many earmarks of being an older, pre-EB Reeves. The front axle and wheel hubs come to mind.

This is the Teton club's 20hp Reeves #4438 at Choteau, Montana. This picture was taken at my friend Melvin Pierce's farm at Scranton, ND. Gary

There is likely only three 20hp Canadian Specials left. Those are the three I placed photos of here.

Gary:

I can barely remember riding with my grandparents on a trip, and Grandpa stopping and having a look at the Reeves in the street at the motel. He knew it was there. What a long time ago!

Also, I owned the 20ds at the time the pic was taken. I sold it to the Club. I bought it in Red Deer, Alberta.
