Default Big Snow Storm Coming To NJ - Up to 12 inches predicted

Big Snow Storm Coming To NJ - Up to 12 inches predicted

Snow will start at about 5am and snow heavy between 7am and noon. Will the lights go out? We will find out, but I will be away all day.

I will be monitoring the house's 18 cameras over the internet while at work. If I lose connection either the internet went down or power went out and I will make it a priority to get home a.s.a.p. to hook up the 4.0 BFA. I have not decided if I will run on gasoline or natural gas yet.

For your entertainment I decided to open one of my cameras for public viewing so if you are interested to see what's happening in northern New Jersey, you can take a look using the following link using Google Chrome or Foxfire. Other browsers may work, but IE won't:

http://69.121.194.50:1347

**If you decide to take a peek throughout the day, PLEASE close the camera page on your browser when done viewing otherwise it will chew up my bandwidth and make things run very slow and blocking others from seeing the snow. It will also chew up your bandwidth too. So, please don't walk away and leave the camera page up on your screen.

Okay, picture time:

Picture #1) Shows the weather map as of 10:15 pm. New Jersey is in the clear, but all the crap from the west will hit my area where the red arrow points to at about 5 am Thursday morning.

Picture #2) This is a sample camera shot during the day. All looks fairly crisp in the picture, but at night the picture is a bit blurry because of the lack of light.

Picture #3) Picture #3) If the camera image opens and it way too large for your screen, simply click on the little blue icon shown in the picture where the arrow points to and the picture will fit better on your screen.

Picture #4) If the power goes out and I hookup to my natural gas line, my 4.0 BFA will be sitting exactly where the red arrow points to. If I run on gasoline, the 4.0 BFA (or my 6.5NH) will be located in a garage with extension cords running to the house. In that case, the generator will not be in the camera's view.

Well, time for bed and let's see what it looks like tomorrow morning...

Johnny,

Based on that satellite image, Captain Obvious says it looks like a big FOOKing storm is headed your way.

It is 5:15 am and getting ready for work. The big FOOKEN storm has started. This will be a tough day. I won't be back until 6 pm to plow my driveway, but for now I got to get my azz ready for a tough commute to work. I hope those 10 big fooken batteries in the back of my SUV help traction.

we are ready here just north of NYC. the woodstove is stoked up as usual. It is snowing like crazy out there. I brought in some extra firewood yesterday while it 55 degrees outside. I checked the batteries and fuel on the onan diesel and the kohler 7.5 gas job, but I fired up my old early 60's homelite 3500 generator to be sure it is ready in case we need to run the coffee pot. I have a little military genny that I can use to charge the batteries for the big gensets if I need to. We never really lose power for very long around here. I don't know why I have so many of these machines, I never really need them at home, really they are just toys to play with once and a while.

9am and I'm at work. The entire place is closed, but I have the key and alarm codes so I am sitting in a warm place alone doing nothing. Way too dangerous to go on the roads now and I have a 13 mile commute. I will wait it out. I am monitoring the snow at home via my security cameras over the Internet. As long as the cameras stay online I know I have power. They now say we may get up to 15 inches of snow.

Well, back to doing nothing.

We got about 5 to 6 inches and it all started roughly at about 5 am. The worst is yet to come.

Johnny,
How does Optimum treat you?
I use to have them, but after i started using a lot of data (work) they gave me problems with changing my ip every 2 hours (long story, but i was doing a lot of server work)
I ended up going to fios because they gave me a better deal and even threw in a static ip.
Thanks,
Dave

Yes, plenty of coffee and food too. I pack my lunch, but plenty of food in the employee's fridge. No one here so I can borrow any left overs if it is not crawling.

No problems yet. My ip may change once every 6 months. Maybe I should get a business account with a static ip. As for using too much bandwidth, they used to throttle back my bandwidth to slow things down. The video you see on my security camera will look choppy when a car goes by, but on my home server's console all looks good with fluid motion.
