I got my 7.5JB this year for free. Fired right up, and I am not too far from you. Cottage is west of Maynooth on Benoir. Gotta love the way the Onan's work!!!

Had a fire last summer, I was off grid for 10 years then, hooked up to Hydro one. Due to the fire, I have decided to stay off grid, electrician wanted $5000 to hook back up. I have 3k in solar cells now and a windmill. Genset gets a minimal amount of run time about 500 hours per year, so costs should be ok.

Cold enough to freeze up Propane tank in the winter? Propane is still going to vaporize at down below -40F which (conveniently) is also -40C

The JB RUNS. Put oil down cly,s, did a cold oil change, replaced oil filter, built a carb out of 3 different parts carb's.cleaned points jerry rigged a exhaust, built up oil pressure with the plugs out, spun over with fresh gas and bam, 1 cly than 2 cly, lots of smoke and then sat and purred just like it should. No power though, checked brushes before start up. clean and moving fine. All wires and contacts appear fine. Armature seems clean. After lunch I will start it up again and try to flash the gen end. Try cleaning the slip rings with scotch bright that's what I had to do with my pull start 5kw cck because it sat for a long time. Or try plugging in a drill or angle grinder and spin the wheel on a table before you flash it

Are you getting any voltage while it's running?

No voltage at all when running. Checked ohms between brushes and slip rings, no resistance noted. Tried a drill plugged in, it was producing 21 volts while being spun, nothing happened. I just poured a shot of straight scotch, I will sit and ponder the situation a bit. Dan

Well, cleaned the 3 slip rings for the ac with scotch bright, nothing. Tried the 3 light bulb trick, didn't work. Cleaned the DC ring, and there she went, like magic, AC power. I had not paid any attention to that end because I had a auto starter rather than exciter cranked. Run it hard with a good load for 15 minutes. Checked compression, 125 on one side and 135 on the other. Looks like it may be a keeper. Dan
