Photo LK spark issue

I got another lk2.5 but the tag is gone. It is a bit different from my other. The exhaust originally came out next to the carburetor rather than oppacit like my other. My other has all 4 mounts on oil pan where as this one has 2 on the sump and 2 on the generator end. Problem is only has spark in hand crank position. It seems to kick back pretty hard when hand cranking like advanced time. I'm guessing that the time is just the point gap and spark issue in in the selonoid or relay. Can anyone help me in diagnose this and maybe positivly identify it. I want to post some pics but don't know how. Is there a way to do it from my phone ? I don't have any yet but can snap some with my phone.

Pictures are great for the green fans on this site but posting the actual model # and serial number tends to get most accurate responses from the experts. I have an AJ that does not sound anything like your set up.

It sounds like you have a later model LK. Is the generator end a square shape? If it is square it will help narrow the spec choices down.

I have two LK's, both have the vibration isolators on the oil pan, one has the exhaust on the carburetor side, the other on the opposite side. The exhaust direction was an option.

You should go to the Twinslan site and download all the available LK manuals. Also download the 900-0186 RV Wiring diagrams manual. One of the LK diagrams should be close enough to what you have.

It sounds like you have two problems: the points and timing for the kickback issue, and the stop relay for the spark only in hand crank position.

I would like to know how to post pics if there's a easy way.My collection is really growing. I can't stop buying them. For every model I get I try to find a match. I went from 0 to ten in the last year. Only six are Onan but none are 1800 RPM units.

No more than points & condensor cost , I would replace those first.
I also have a 2.5 LK. It quit one time & I could not get it to start . No fire at the spark plug. Before I worked on it, I had to repair my lawnmower which also did not have spark at the plug. Many times, I just hold onto the wire & pull the rope to test it for fire . [ You can see where I am going with this ] I started working on the Onan & decided it had a bad coil. The coil looked the same as a junk car I had , so I swapped coils . I had its plug removed & held onto the plug wire while spinning it over by the battery !!!!! YES,,, it had spark !!!!

My heart is just fine. It has great spark, but only when ignition switch is in hand crank position. This switch acts as an on off switch on in hand crank position and off in electric start posistion. I don't want to harm it by running it like that . I don't know if it will.

Download 900-0186 RV Generator Wiring Diagrams from the Twinslan site. Look at the LK diagrams, and find the one that matches your generator. They are all pretty much the same. You will notice that the hand crank switch bypasses the stop relay and applies 12 volts directly to the coil. Check the stop relay circuitry to find out why it is not working.
