Now if you know how to pronounce "Sequim" or "Puyallup", it all makes sense.

JohnnyC- i think the 2 people are very busy, and yes wanting best price. Keep me posted if they get back to you a on the 250.00 like they said. doubt they will, same as me.

Going to Philly Sat. so no go, will give it a few days. or weeks and go from there.

It prob is a runner, only concern was mouse damage and the condition of the mag. if they are toast no sense in buying, more trouble than its worth.

Basically the same deal as the 6.5 i looked at for you, he wanted top dollar and its still sitting in his shed collecting dust, guess some people work that way.

Update on Squid's possible new Onan 7.5 JB...... I emailed the seller this evening asking about the status of the JB since I asked late last week that I (Squidtrap) wanted to get it this past weekend and I thought the seller would get back to me. The seller immediately replied to my email this evening. The seller informed me that mice tore it apart after taking a close look at it. He did not specifically state which part or where the mice feasted, but mentioned that the part costs $500 from an Onan site. The seller asked me if I plan to use it or scrap it. I did not reply yet until Squidtrap gets back to me. THIS IS GREAT!!! I BET THE SELLER WOULD TAKE $50 or $75 FOR THE JB and most likely fixed for only pennies.

I attached 2 emails that were sent to me from the seller this evening.

Just as i figured, asked for pic of control box, he is clueless, took a look and found the mice infestation.

Wonder if its just the control box or they got to the mag and stuff.

JohnnieC- sent you a PM. going to work.

If its just the control box any idea how much to rebuild??

Thanks Ed

Squid, I sent a follow up email to the seller. Please see the attached picture below. I can't attach pictures in a p.m. and for some reason I can't access private mail from my cell. I hope to settle for $50 to $75 - I will keep you informed. Got to roll to work now! Late!

**Maybe we should offer him a case of beer for it??

JohnnyC- keep me posted hopefully its just the control box. Left my cell in the PM if u need it, keep in mind im an earlybird to bed usually by 10PM latest.

Any pros have an idea what the components would cost to repair control box, know i have seen relays and such but how about a replacement VR.

Also anybody ever see mice ruin the mag itself? i know the like the winding's.

would you guys take the chance for 50-75.00 bucks??? HELP, thanks Ed.

The Magneciter is the VR , I'd be all over it , lots of potential for parts or a runner. You can replace most of the relays and such with modern equivalents rather than going with original hard to find stuff. If you have to rebuild the entire control box you might as well. Or find a used control box , some of us have extras in various conditions. Cheers Dan

I don't see anything wrong with modern relays, they are even sealed so contacts and hinge points don't corrode.

I hear modern electronic VR can replace the magnaciter, so as long as engine runs and genhead windings aren't toast it you can get it making AC again.

UPDATE- figured i would make one last chance call to the grandfather of the poster who JohnnyC is dealing with. Asked about the pic of control box he said he would send. He told me they ran into some problems and hooked up a battery, gen turns over but has no spark!! i asked about mice in the box or gen end and he said NO signs of them????? asked him best price he said 250.00 told him no way, we talked a bit, i played it off as NOT interested but asked if he could load. As he stated b4 he said no problem as they do demo work an have plenty of equipment. Told him i need to think about it and earliest i could come is Sat. he said LHK.

Last question was what would the best price be he said he is done w/it as they get many onans and equipment, give me 100.00 its yours, told him i need to think about it.

2 totally different stories from the son and grandfather. Like johnny said, 50/75.00 prob. buys it but what story is true. Guess a road trip needs to be done.

As long as the engine turns over, no water in the oil or rust in the cylinders, I would not have a problem paying $100. Chances are the generator end will be fine. The control box can be rebuilt with modern relays.

I would be there right now with $100 in hand and a trailer or PU.

The carb & starter are both worth $100 ea. if you need one. The engine "turns over" is a good thing.

At the worst, you waste a trip. I doubt he would let you drive off if you had $75 cash in your hand and headed for the truck.

That's what I'm thinking too.

If I was closer, I'd pay $100. $25-$50 is not a deal breaker for me on something of this nature.

Getting that for 100 dollars is pretty amazing (compared to what everything sells for here, which is 10x more). Getting it for 75 dollars is truly exceptional. If he offers you a cup of coffee, takes the 75 bucks and helps you load it....that is a god-tier achievement!

Heck even at 250 dollars as long as there is nothing beyond simple repair/cosmetic, that is still "cheap" compared to things on that other far away coast. Dunno what the market is like there but you could still flip it or part it and make good $$$$ more than likely even at the cost of full asking price, fuel and your time.

Kevin- he said the oil was like new, told him anybody could change it. It has a stop and shop tag also so it was pulled from there, think they stored it inside.

Max- thats what im thinking, just dont get the 2 totally different stories.

He also said the coil was bad, thats why no spark. Asked him how he knew, he had no answer. They are totally clueless. He just wants it gone.

Looks like a road trip Sat. morning, going to see if JohnnyC can make contact 1 more time and figure out the conflicting stories.

Lots of updates this afternoon which I need to read all of... Ed, I p.m.'d you.... I did not get a response from this morning's email that I sent and posted here. I think the seller is going to play me against Ed without knowing me and Ed are working together on this deal.

Interesting that the grandfather says no mice damage, yet the grandson specifically states about the mouse damage in his email which I posted previously. Regardless, for $100 I'd be there in a heart beat. As for the no spark, it may be the points. I doubt it is the coil. Could also be a wired in the ignition system that was chewed by a mouse. Regardless, it is a very easy fix.

Ed, if he agrees to $100, you should be in your truck and on your way to pick it up. At that price, you can't go wrong. The ad says it runs on gas/gasoline a.k.a. Tri-Fuel. That carburetor alone will sell for $300 or more very easily.

If I don't get a response by the end of today to my email sent earlier today, I will send another friendly email to the seller in the morning.

Who cares about the stories.

Have johnie tell him he is no longer interested, you are his only prospect. If you can take off tomorrow after work, go get it.

The MOST you have to loose is some time and a few $ in fuel. As was mentioned, $25 one way or the other really does not matter, you are buying at scrap price.

Mess around too long and you may miss out on a "possibly" fun project.

SO - I mentioned it to the wife (onan#4) she asked where it is located?
I tell her bout 1 hour or so, she asks is it near Atlantic City (casino) i say yes kinda. She says good. turns out she wants to go to a flower show in AC. (now onan #4 is not such a big deal)

JohnnyC and I may end up getting paid to get rid of it, just kidding, are working to try and find out what is really up w/ this gen but regardless i was told 100.00 will buy it, and most likely less, that will cover gas, food, flowers, (for wife)

Im curious to see what details they tell JohnnyC, more to come soon, Ed.

Max- i may just do that, i get off at 2

Nothing wrong with "Let's Make a Deal" with your Wife when you want something!

I hope you can get it tomorrow after 2 pm. If so, please post lots of pictures including the damages. I'm sure while your wife is in the flower show, flowers will not be your focus and understandably so. While you are there, don't forget the small things such as the rubber isolator feet and demand regulator if they have them.
