It appears the storm passed over and is gone. We did not get 24 inches, but I think we got at 16" instead. I will do a second cleaning in about an hour. I got tired of watching the snow and going to take a nap now

Very fine cold dry snow with high winds, some drifting.
Power and internet are on, no real risk of outage here. Snow is dry so not sticking to trees and high wind makes sure it doesn't accumulate on branches. Weak branches have already been blown down last week when we had high winds then. So I'm not worried about power, just got my fingers crossed that snowblower runs well.

Only 8 inches so far, NOAA says another 10.5 coming by midnight.

Went out to see the snow, only 9 inches.
Looks like it's mostly stopped out there. What little snow that is falling is very fine , can see thru it very well.
NOAA currently promises another 7 inches by midnight.

The outage map doesn't show any for NH , but TV says 49,000 without power along the coast.
Maybe my gen will sell.

Ahhh I found the problem, there are several power companies in NH, each only reports an outage map for THEIR customers, no overall map for the state. This map is utility that services the coastal region ( 49,000 people in dark)

The worst is to start about now here. The wind is blowing and to get up to 30-40mph tonight. It is hard to tell how much snow is down but the forecast is for 18"-24". I am going to wait until 10pm or so to go out and do some cleaning. My daughter has to go out then to feed and let the dogs out for a fellow about 11/2miles away. He works nights this week. I drive school bus so school closed today. This was our last snow day so after this the kids are going to loose holidays if we miss any more.

Well, I just finished the second plowing of the driveway / parking area as well as shoveling the sidewalks. The only two vehicles snowed in are my tenant's vehicles. It is their responsibility to clean off the 18" of snow on top and around their vehicles.

It will be dark in an hour or so here in New Jersey. The grid power never flickered which is to be expected with Onans on standby....

I will be taking the cameras offline in an hour. The Russians are trying to hack them.

We got about 17 inches of wet, heavy snow. I lost my yardstick, so marked up a piece of wood. Had some strong winds, so a lot of drifts. Snow blower had a hard time. Road plow left 3 foot+ high piles in front of our driveways. Neighbor had a guy with a Cat loader come for his driveway. The rest of us shoveled with a spade. Compacted ice/snow from road plow too heavy for snow shovels or snow blowers.

So much for snow here. About 3" of rain and very strong wind. Lights did flicker a few times but power stayed on.

Ed, I just watched the news. Big difference between snow and rain depending on where you live in this miserable state. We got all snow and short periods of ice. No rain. We did not get 24 inches as the fake news media originally reported. We got approx. 15 inches take of give a few. I plowed my driveway which now has a 1/4 inch sheet of ice covering it. Temps should be going down into the low 20's tonight.

It turned from snow to rain this around 10 AM, temp got up to 45*F, a lot of rain, blowing horizontal in high wind. Just inland, they got dumped on and the roads are bad, so they say.

Much of the 6+ inches snow we got last week in a mainly "cape & islands" only storm got melted today.

Branches and sticks all around, some coastal erosion, ferry boats did not run today, I have no complaints,..happy storm, and you folks with iced out roads, please be careful driving tonight.

Just went out and measured . We only got another 1 in of sleet since 6pm.
"NOAA promised another 7 inches, they owe me another 6-8 inches of snow.

Only got 10 inches total, not 18. We only got ~ half what they promised us

I think the weathermen are compensated by the retailers to predict good and bad weather. That way all snow stuff sells out, on the flip side summer weekends are always beautiful so rentals, food, beer, sunblock sell good, and there is never any wind on the ocean so the charter boats get the bennies down here for the weekend only to have the hair blown off their head.

I think the Russians are also involved!!!!!!!!! (darn fake news)

Snow, what snow . Now that I have all that extra gas for the generator I didn't need to use, I guess I need to run some engines. But, what do I do with all that extra bread & milk & .... (return it ) right here in NJ, where I made it through another nor'easter without incident .

This time I was in the bullseye. A good solid two feet. Oh well... in a couple of weeks it will all be a bad memory. On the other hand, the skiing will be great! 26" of fresh powder on Jiminy Peak. Yea!!!

I'm working on a bike in the garage and last night on the radio was Hannity beating the hell out of some east coast weather reporting guru. He was merciless hammering on the guy with the why can't you idiots get a forecast right. Man he had this guy dancing and didn't let up. You said we'd get two feet on the island and we only got 10 inches and so on.

The gist was that they've been using the same patterns for 50 years to forecast what's going to happen. As we are in a warming period the guy admits the historical patterns are wrong. This of course ignited Hannity citing the Einstein definition of insanity proverb of doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I sorta felt sorry for the guy getting ripped apart but damn it was funny.
Same thing here in cheeseland. A couple days ago we had the storm that you easterners got. They predicted 10-15 inches for my area and we got 3. I'm not arguing that one though.

Hannity is a loud mouth. It's easy to stand on the sidelines and criticize when you have absolutely no knowledge of the subject. I'd like to see him do any better.

Meteorology is boring in certain areas of the country such as Arizona. In other areas of the country such as the Northeast it can be quite challenging to get anything approaching an accurate long term forecast. Small random changes as the weather system travels can have a huge effect on the outcome. I'm amazed they were able to predict this event a week in advance. So they got it a bit wrong, the storm moved further inland, and I got the booby prize. It happens.

Interesting reading would be "The Butterfly Effect" in which small changes in a system can cause enormous changes in the outcome.

I'm not a meteorologist, and I enjoy tweaking them a bit about the lack of accuracy just like anyone else. But to rip into them without having any knowledge of the subject is disgusting.
