Default Onan CCW 5.0KW - constant load required?

Hi guys -

I've got a sweet Onan CCW 5.0KW (pic attached I hope).
I owe thanks to Dan (BigBlockChev) for help in locating this baby.

Anyway, as I finally get close to installing this at my off-grid cabin to back-up my solar power system, the Solar Power guy asked the following question:

"just wanted to make sure that the generator doesn’t require a constant load to “keep it warm”. We have seen Onan’s that draw down the battery because they need a constant draw to run a heater."

I can't imagine how a constant load would be required for a generator as that would never really occur in practice.

He just clarified this is for a block heater on the generator. I don't think I have one but thought I'd come here and ask the experts.

Do some Onan models have a block heater?

Diesel unit use a block heater sometimes use a heater in cold climate's to keep them warm since they fire by heat of Combustion. I think your's is Gas.

Yes, mine is a propane fired GenSet. Makes sense some diesels would want a block heater.

The water cooled units had block heaters. The ONAN diesels J type really needed them. That does not use a block heater. They did have oil base heaters. Pretty much useless. I have started ones like that at 15 degrees. Never had a problem really.
