Default Impco Fl-50046-008 Gas Shutoff Valve Parts

Last week I fried the solenoid coil on my Impco Fl-50046-008 gas shut off valve. I posted the story on the forum. I thought I could just buy a replacement coil, but my searches for parts got me nowhere. It appears I may have to buy the entire valve which cost ~$80.00.

Does anyone know where I can specifically buy only the coil?

Thanks,

JohnnyC

Can you get warranty on the valve? Seems like it failed prematurely to me. Cheers Dan

I thought I had the receipt, but I can't find it. I know I got it... It will turn up 10 years from now when I'm not looking for it.

I'm still curious where you bought that...

Call these guys - they might have the coil:

If I can find my receipt I would be glad to share that information with you. Anyway, I sent a message to Carb Turbo (see picture below). If I do not hear back from them by Friday I will call directly. It is too late to call now.

Thanks,

Cool. I'm especially curious, because I've bought a bunch of these from Carb and Turbo over the years. Never had one burn up, but they do run hot. So if your batt voltage was on the high side, I could see this happening. That, or you somehow got a Chinese clone - your solenoid does look a little different from mine...

Or, mine are on the verge of pulling a magniciter-like smoke out...

This has been my go-to valve over the years too. I prefer them over the 1950s looking ones that Onan/Cummins still seems to use and the similar looking ones that Kohler uses. Their failure rate seems lowest in my applications.

Update

I received a reply by email this morning in regards to my message I sent to Carburetion & Turbo Systems yesterday (see first attached picture below).

I called the number in the email and spoke to several people ranging from the receptionist (Shelly) to Matt (parts) and Eric (technical guy). The call lasted for at least 30 minutes. Matt and Eric seen the video I posted on youtube showing the coil smoking and thought I was using liquid propane. I informed them that I was not using liquid propane, only propane vapor. We concluded that the coil must have had a crack in it and most likely defective from the factory and resulted in failure. We discussed the condition of the body of the valve which I stated it was fine. No problems and functioned well (I temporarily installed a solenoid coil from another IMPCO valve). By the way, they would have honored warrantee if I bought the valve from them.

Bad news: As for replacement coils, there are none available to the general public. There are no after market parts available other than the electrical connector that plugs into the valve. These valves were built to be non-serviceable due to possible liability issues if the valve is opened and not properly reassembled.

Good news: They have 1 coil that was removed from another valve that was sent back as defective. The previous owner attempted to split the valve open and stripped several of the screw holes and tried to claim warrantee. Needless to say, the warrantee was not honored and rightfully so.
Although these valves are non-serviceable due to liability reasons as I previously stated, they sold me the coil and the entire top half of the valve body including a new connector pigtail for $25.00 plus shipping (see second picture below). I must how somehow convinced them I'm technically competent (LOL LOL LOL)....

*** I am sold for purchasing future valves from Carburetion & Turbo Systems. The support exceeded my expectations. Jim, thank you for recommending them.

CTS has helped me out in the past as well.

Although Parts for Techs aka ASAP is also good to me and has helped me on a couple of pricey warranty items.

Glad they were able to help out. I've been buying gaseous parts from them for about 20 years - always treated me well...

Today I received the IMPCO solenoid coil to replace the burned coil on the gas shutoff valve from Carb & Turbo (see picture below). In addition to the coil, they gave me basically all the parts except for the main body of the valve. I guess you can say I now have a rebuild kit of parts all for only $25.00.

Thanks Jim for the recommendation and thanks to Carb & Turbo for super customer service!
