Helping out a friend with one of these lovely old gens, I am also in need of the service and parts manuals, it has been sitting for awhile but now running but not generating, cleaned slip rings, brushes, commutator, manuals would be wonderful.

The parts and service manuals should be in your mailbox. If, for some reason you don't see them, check your spam folder.

Thanks Max, sent Kevin and you a modded service manual.
---------- Post added at 08:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:06 AM ---------- I was wondering if someone could advise me about flashing this unit as it has been sitting for quite some time, it will only run with the battery connected, and does not have a stator under the flywheel, and does not produce power. Thanks |

Thank you for sending me a revised copy of the service manual.
Because the LK is exciter cranked, it does not require flashing. In effect it is flashed every time it is started. The LK does not have a flywheel stator. It uses a coil and points type ignition system powered by the battery, which is charged by the DC portion of the generator. In normal operation, you should never disconnect the battery when the generator is running. The exciter produces (in the case of my LK) about 17.6 volts in normal operation. This is current limited by the two large 1 ohm resistors and used to charge the battery. The battery ballasts the voltage to about 13.8 volts, and that voltage is used to power the ignition system. Without the battery in the circuit of a normally running LK, the voltage applied to the ignition system would rise to about 17 volts, and could damage the coil or points. Because the LK is exciter cranked, most of the circuit is checked just by starting it. Here are a couple of things to check: Make sure there is no short anywhere on the 120 volt output, including in the generator end and in the control box. This would most likely cause slow cranking, but if the engine started, a short on the output would collapse the magnetic field giving you no DC (battery charging) or AC output. With the engine running, measure the voltage on both sides of the start solenoid. One side should have battery voltage, the other side should have around 17 volts. If the 17 volts is present, the exciter portion of the generator is working properly and the problem is elsewhere. |

Thanks Kevin,
You are very welcome for the revised pdf, almost got a kink in my neck holding my head sideways, have been working on computers for awhile and am a bit rusty on my generators, nice to have a little change and working on things that were made in true American style again. :-) |

New to this site. I also have the 2.5LK-1R and I am putting new rings in and a valve job. Could someone tell me how much valve lash these should be set at. Could I get the manual also.
Thanks |

Hi cs,
And welcome to the Smokstak. LK intake and exhaust clearance spec is 15-17 thousandths (.015 - .017 in) set at room temperature. I would be happy to send you service and parts manuals in pdf format if you suppy an email address to send them to. You can send your email as a private message by clicking on a members name if you don't care to post it in public for all the spambots out there to see.
