At some time after JE Tilly left Victoria, c1915, he set up an engineering business in Sydney, presumably making Tillico engines.

By 1920 the name had been transferred to William Adams, at which time he was working for them as works superintendent, overseeing the production of the Tillico engines and lathes that they were making to his design.

Tilly recommenced his own engine production, now branded Tilly, by 1931.

Could you post a photo of the other side of the engine please.

Eric

Thanks for the photo.

What seems a bit strange to me is that Tilly, who was obviously a clever engineer, was happy just making little 2 stroke engines.

He did build 30hp marine engines in the early years, and I have read that there may have been stationary engines as well.

Attached is a photo of the Duigan aircraft engine that he built. The plane can be seen at the Australian National Aviation Museum, Moorabbin, Vic.
