Your twin cylinder engine was built between 1928 and 1946. And yes the compressor was most likely Natural Gas Compressor. ...............DH

Most likely the compressor was used to pressurize the substrata via the "5 spot" method whereby a central well was injected with pressure (sometimes natural gas back here in Pa. where oil was in demand long before natural gas was) and pushed the oil thru the sands to 4 surrounding production wells. The set up pictured would have been able to supply & pump several 5 spot groups. The eccentric powers drove the production wells via rod lines leading to individual jacks at each well head.
