Default Coleman Powermate Generator (Tecumseh Engine) - No Ignition Spark

I have a Tecumseh engine with no spark on a Coleman generator. Purchased in 1999 and total running time less than 1 hour. Is there any test I can perform to verify my ignition coil is bad? The engine does not have points and condenser or any connections to ignition coil other than spark plug wire. Magnet on flywheel has some magnetism but doens't seem super strong.

the spec number of your gen, says that it has a low oil shutdown, which is connected to the ignition switch, but you already disconnected it. i would just look for a used coil off of just about and 8-10hp snow blower or such, used at a small engine grave yard.

If you are checking for spark by just "flipping" the flywheel, you probably can't get it fast enough. Leave the coil unplugged and try with the recoil starter. If no spark, try a different plug. Still no spark, bad coil.

Interesting, there is no evidence of a low oil shutdown on this engine.

When I worked on these things years ago A Tecumseh with a brushless head was considered inexpensive simple units.
Coleman makes lanterns in Kansas, everything else is made by someone else. ( these days China )

In a pinch something is better than nothing I always say.
But put two brand new ones side by each on offer too me one made in China and the like what you have, I would take the Chinese one because it has the low oil shut down, Iron liner, Ball bearings and OHV.

The Brushless head VS the Brush head.
The Brushless unit might be a bit more reliable than Chinese AVR units, but he Chinese unit has better voltage regulation.
Still a toss up

Wouldn't you know it, Orielly Autoparts, doesn't have a part number for this coil. Looks like all other Tecumseh engines had replacement part numbers but the picture is quite different. Anyway, spinning the motor with my drill, I do have spark. A couple of squirts of gas into the cylinder and it does run though, producing power, enough at least for a 1800 watt heater. Carb isn't letting any fuel in however. I fiddled with the float some and get some fuel through. It seems like the carb has a rubber inlet seat that seems to be swelled up. The needle is all steel. If I let it sit a few minutes I finally get enough gas into the float bowl and the generator will run till that is used up. Is the seat available in a carb kit?

if its got low oil shutdown, its got 4 screws holding it in in the bottom of the engine block

Yes, needle and seat kits are available. I may have one. One other thing to check is the gas cap. If the vent is stopped up, it won't let gas flow. Probably not your problem, but check that.

Standard needle & seat every Tecumseh dealer will have. Fits probably 90% of their engines, 631021B. Also get 2 o-rings for nozzle, 632547

After you install the new rubber seat, be sure to adjust the float! Turn the carb upside down and adjust the needle flap so that the seam on the float is parallel with the carb flange for the bowl. With the carb still upside down, make sure the needle does indeed close the fuel inlet. If it does, you should be set.

The new seat made a huge difference in needle adjustment. I'm glad you sent the bowl gasket too since the old one was somewhat loose. The new one doesn't fall off like the old one. The generator runs great now.
