Default Sherwood Hume's Auction

Just wondering if anyone knows if Sherwood Hume sold his Sawyer Massey steam engine and how much it went for. We couldn't make the sale as we were in Wisconsin looking at a Northwest to build a new boiler.
Regards,
Bob Oliver

Hi ALL

NO!

The engine did not sell!

Only one bid on it and would not sell it for what was started . . . It stays in Milton for now!

Will send pictures of sale later
Tim

I would say there is no surprise there at all. My guess is Sherwood had a healthy reserve on it. There was supposedly $60,000.00 tied up in that restoration in ' 93.

So what all did Sherwood sell? Is he cutting back on the collection, or trying to get out all together?

I was unable to attend the sale myself, but I understand the 'reserve' price was fairly high and there was only one bid placed on the engine. Guess the buyers were not there.

Sherwood's Sawyer Massey is a side mount, BUT it's not, and was NEVER, meant to be used as a plowing engine. That's how the original boiler on that engine was destroyed, decomissioned, and the new welded boiler built for it.

Just my two cents worth.

Wayne

P.S. Any of the steam people here in Ontario want to attend the Clark Dell estate sale this Saturday just South of Norwich. A Waterloo engine and Case portable engine as well as lots of steam related goddies to be had. Plus tractors, gas engines, manuals, tools, etc.

Too bad Wayne's bid wasn't high enough to take the engine home, would have been a neat picture with Sherwoods Engine hooked up to the New Plow Wayne bought not to long ago. Oh well.

Wayne now Thats A Jim Dandy sale you have there! are you at LEAST going to take pictures and show us all what we missed and could you get the number of the engine so others can put it on the list of surviving engines.

I see that there is a Dundas Ontario, if I showed up and said I was from Dundas do you think I would fit in Last weekend I was told I had a funny accent in Kansas (and I thought they had the accent) but it didn't help with the girls thou.... I am having with-drawls from the Carmel rolls and pie.

I seen the Aultman Taylor running yesterday. We were at Steve Ott's in Howell, Michigan for his annual sawmill & pig roast party and they had just dropped it off. It started right up and we put it on the sawmill and sawed with it. It ran real good. ( Steve Ott is not the owner of the Aultman Taylor)

The owner of the Aultman Taylor is Larry Barson and his partner Jeff. I'm not sure what Jeff's last name is, I'm not much good at remembering names for some reason.
