Photo Hickory Pennsylvania Auction 5/30/11

Here are a few pictures from a sale in Hickory Pa. It was a fun and dirty sale. Lots of engines and lots of scrap. I mananaged to meet up with some old friends and make a few new ones.

Somehow the clerk managed to charge me $6000 less than what my total bill was. It wasn't until I was showing a friend my receipt after the sale that we realized this. I went back in and made sure I paid what I owed. They were shocked they could have made such a mistake. I don't know how many times the family and the auction staff thanked me for making it right with them and for just coming to the auction.

This sale had many goodies and it was really hard to keep track of everything. I bought a lot of good engine parts from the scrappers after the sale. I seen a brand new looking Wico OC mag being carried over to be thrown into a scrap truck, I saved it for $10 And then I got a 6hp FM Z crank guard off another truck for a $1

Jon,

Nice trailer load!! I commend you for your honesty, not too common these days. Post pics when you get it all separated so we can see the engines.

Jon, you are a real gentleman and i always said "my money is my money and their money is their money" I am always proud of a person that makes things right and for instance, my son went to purchase fence pickets this week at home depot, and the lady undercharged him about $300.00 and he brought it to her attention. Needless to say she was happy about that, you did what was right and can be pleased with yourself and more people should do what you have done, gene

A few people asked me how I got charged $6K less on the bill and didn't catch it. Well here is how it happened. It was a long day for everyone by the time I paid my for my items. I was busy talking to people and trying to buy stuff from the scrappers after the auction and the staff had to track me down to pay up. I knew my bill was something over $7K because I had asked for a total while the auction was still going on. When I went to pay the lady had to had up all of the tickets and I think she still had the $7K figure on a paper from when she had totaled it up before. But as it turned out there was a very odd fold in the paper she had wrote it down on and missed one of the numbers. When she told me the new total I heard a figure like $8200 but what she was saying was $1820 or so. Since they took credit cards at no extra fee and since I have a card that I get cash back on, I put it all on the card. Since I used the card I didn't have to count out any cash or write a check the mistake went unnoticed Then after I paid I showed a friend the receipt and realized something was wrong.

While the cashier was very nice I could tell she was very tired of working a very long day and it seemed that it took everything she had just to smile and exchange pleasantries by the time I paid. I think we have have all been there a few times. So knowing that and since I have an odd since of humor sometimes I told my friends to watch this and I went back in the garage were she was. I said in a really stern and somewhat angry voice "How much did you charge my card for?" I forget what she said back but I could tell she was about to blow a gasket. Then I threw my auction tickets back on the table and told her she better ad them up again. When she realized what happened I think she just about passed out. Then everyone had a good laugh about it. I'm glad I caught the mistake when I did so it didn't add any stress the family or auction staff at a time that must have already been pretty stressful.

It has been years since I've owned a trailer that small, it belongs to my friend Randy Hart... He let me borrow his since my other trailers were full of stuff that I had bought the week before and I hadn't been home yet to unload them. Check out the video of some of the old junk I picked up and had at Randy's house. http://youtu.be/LIEnaMLoYG8 Everything but the air cooled Associateds belongs to me. As of right now The Mogul with the cream seperator pulley and a New Holland grinder are under the tarp.

I will do that but the pictures will be on Enginads.

Hi All,

I am one of the family members of this estate sale. I joined your forum to publicly thank Jon for his honesty. It is refreshing to see honesty such as Jon displayed! Also, I had the opportunity to chat with him and the 2 guys that were with him. They all seemed like genuinely nice men and it was a pleasure to meet them. Thanks again Jon!

Terry
