Default Onan 6.5 mcck wont run with the release of start switch

Hi guys and girls.
I have an Onan 6.5 mcck spec H. I can't really read the model number. I think it is 6.5 mcck 3CPA2288H "ish". set H870 916919
It runs great, I've spent a lot of time tweaking it. Recently it won't stay running after release of the start switch. I've read the other threads but just can't figure it out. Here's what I've figured out. If I remove the rmt fuse it starts and run great, but the stop switch doesn't work. Then I put the fuse in and it shuts down. While running it generates good AC volts. There is no dc volts while running on the CRG fuse either side. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance. Tony

There is a charge resistor on the generator end that keeps the DC voltage below a certain output.. when it.shorts or etc.. this happens.. there available on ebay or onan parts might have one...you'll have to look up the part number im.the manual for your unit.. as its been a year or so and I can't remember it

Resistor number is 353-0092. Common for it to go out about every ten years.

Thanks guys!! I think I found the problem with your help. I haven't opened the gen end up before. Looks like I have some work to do.

Hey Billy, thanks again for spending your time helping us out!
Question, the parts manual lists two of them as 353-0091? 353-0092 is a 50w, 353-0091 is a 25 w. Your thoughts? Tony

I posted the wrong one. That one is 353-0091.

Ok, so I've replaced both resistors 353-0091. I'm waiting on resistor 353-0068, it should be here today. But it still won't stay running after release of the start button.
On a separate problem, the electric choke. How is it powered? 12v, 110? My wires have been snipped and trying to find where to run them.
Third, I have 110v now at my crg fuse, was thinking it should be 12v?
Thanks Tony

So, I hooked up the electric choke to 12v and nothing happens. Then I hooked it up to the wire from the CRG fuse with 110 and it glows hot like it is supposed to.
I still don't know why it won't run after releasing the start switch.

Try jumping the safety switches. I use a jumper wire with alligator clips. There are 3 switches. Engine high temp, low oil pressure, and the exhaust high temp. The wiring goes to these switches and then to the positive side of the coil. Try jumping from the engine high temp to the coil first and if it stays running then you can narrow down which switch is bad. Mine always seems to be the exhaust switch that goes bad. The start switch bypasses these switches until released.

Hey--I'm working on the same problem with my Onan 6.5kw MCCK "H" --where is this resistor that you found to be bad located exactly. The part # 353-0091. Thanks!

Two sheets that cover the gen section. Besides burned out resistor. The most common thing I found bad. Was item 26. Most of the time that was the problem.Go to the twinslan link we have on this site. You can download the parts manual 927-0224. I forgot the service manual number but it will be there.

Item 26 seems to be the bridge rectifier if I recall correctly. Cheers Dan

Hey Billy! I traced my generator trouble to the genset itself. I found the same resistor that Tresea had posted a pic here earlier and in the same exact location. I removed the resistor and found the onan part # is 353-0060 and has 7.5 ohm on it also. I'm a little confused as you had said that the number is 353-0091. The resistor on mine looks like it's been there for many years--I've had the boat for 4 years and no work has been done the electrical side of the generator. The number is clear on the resistor.

Onan did update numbers at times. Never did understand why.
