Default Free Onan 15.0JC-18R/13704AB and equipment

Free to a good home

This was the start of a project to give my shop three phase power. I'm too old to do the job and Con Edison wants too much to install the three phase feed. Someone take this before it gets ruined completely. It's been sitting under a tarp for a couple of years.

Three phase circuit breaker panel - Square D NQOD42L225CU 225 amps, 240 volts 42 positions

Three phase safety switch (disconnect) - Square D 200 amp, 240 volts

Onan LTD200-24/1448A Load Transfer Switch - Three phase, 200 amps, four wire, 120/208 volts, 50/60 Hz

Onan 15.0JC-18R/13704AB s/n A800475455, 12 volt battery required
(I have a battery, probably good that you can take)

5 cans of paint to match Onan colors

Spool of MTW wire to re-wire the controls

Muffler & flex pipe

Pictures at Generator

You have to take everything...
Located near Ossining, NY 10562

First one to confirm that they'll pick it all up will get it (all, no returns!!!)

---------- Post added at 03:57:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55:20 PM ----------

Forgot the wire - 25 or 50 feet of three phase feed line, aluminum. Take it if you want it.

I do not know how many KW you need out of a generator but, you can get 12.5 KW single phase out of that generator!

Thank You for offering it up to us STAKERS!!!!! If I was anywhere close I would be on my way!

Thank you for the very generous offer! I am sure there are many here who would grab it in a heartbeat if they were close enough. As for myself, time and space constraints make it impossible for me to get it. I hope you find a taker soon.

As per MapQuest it is a 1 hour drive from my place in North Jersey to Ossining, NY (see attached picture below).

At this very moment I have my Grand Cherokee topped off with gas and parked next to the trailer. Today, I have nothing special planned with family and friends. It is very tempting, but I've already restored a 15.0 JC, fixed and flipped a 15 RJC that was given to me for pennies since the owner could not sell it since the demand for 3 phase only gensets is a limited market, and I'm looking for an Onan 1 phase genset with a Kubota diesel motor for my next project. I'm most likely one of the closest to Biser's location, but I just don't have a need for it.

If the transfer switch was a 1 and 3 phase switch, I'd be there since it is a 200 amp switch, but it is 3 phase

** On a positive note, is this genset tri-fuel???? Look at my second picture. Without doubt it will run propane and natural gas, but look at the main jet adjustment rod for gasoline that extends from the bottom of the float bowl and through the tin. Looks to be like the tri-fuel carb on my JB. None of my other J series vapor only carbs had that. The carb alone is worth the trip if it is tri-fuel. I'm sure Leon may want the starter. It looks like a Prestolite, not a Mitsubishi which came out later.... None the less, if the genset can be revived it should not be parted in my opinion.

Update:: I think I see electric choke wires and connectors at the carb. I would bet a coffee it is a tr-fuel set.

I would imagine that some three phase switches could be "tricked" into working on single phase. But I have NO idea if this may be one of them!

My very limited experience on ATS's is some switches are 1 and 3 phase and to change them it could be as simple as moving a multi-wire connector from one location to another. My LT II switch can be configured from 1 to 3 phase of many different voltages in less than 15 seconds. I attached a picture below, but it is not the best example. The switch up for grabs is a 3 phase switch as per the data tag on the switch. I believe if it was compatible for single phase, it would be indicated on the data tag.

Pose the question to Billy , I am sure he would know. I think most 3 phase ATSs can be used on single phase simply by choosing which line is monitored, I don't believe they actually monitor all three. Cheers Dan

Single on a 3 phase switch should be as simple as looping one leg though the the unused one, just as you do with a motor starter that monitors each.

I feel your pain, you hate to give on a project, but sh-t happens and its best to realize it and moive on.
I just gave away a 12 DJC factory trailer mounted with enclosure and extended stack.that had less than 500 hrs on it.
I gave it to a friend of mine who needs a standby unit but has not had enough loose cash to pick one up. He is almost finished with sanding and painting, the unit and trailer, and will help him replace the wiring on the output panel.
It is nice to see how excited he and his wife are,
I am sure whoever gets your set will bring it to life, and you can help them along.

The old LT/LTD switches, the controls normally ran off of A and B phase. So long as you use A/B phase for your power through the contactors, it won't know if its switching three phase or single phase. Only caveat to that would be if it was a fully optioned switch at the time, with three voltage sensing modules mounted in it. If so, you would just jumper the third one's output contact (the outputs of the simple voltage sensors were simply wired in series.) Also, those sensors are long-obsolete, and should be replaced with a more modern, integrated voltage sensor appropriate for the power being supplied to the switch.

That switch can be converted to single phase. Simple wiring change. Just use A/B phase. Where the problem comes in. Being 208 you have to change out control relays and some timers if it has any. On a switch that old I don't think it would be worth. The amps wouldn't matter. That is just what the contacts are rated at.

I spent many hours changing voltage controls. Because the salesman got the order wrong. I bet Eric and Gunny have heard this one. But the salesman said it could be done.

Yes. That switch will do any voltage, single or 3 phase.

Quit your arguing and bitching and go get it. Worry about the little details later.

George Wilson picked it up this morning along with all the other stuff. He should be half way home by now. My wife is extremely happy to get all of that stuff out of the basement and the driveway.

Let me make an unsolicited testimonial... The Warn PullzAll is an absolute wonder for moving heavy equipment around. Mine pulled that JC right up George's trailer ramp with no hesitation at all. You can look at it on Amazon. I have the 110 volt version.
