Default Onan 2.5 LK

I apologise if I am wrong for starting out in the wrong place. I just picked up a 2.5 k Onan generator for 25 bucks at an auction. I know next to nothing about generators. It is not running and I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me with information on it. The model number is 1R/L0545J and the serial number is 0573649394. I just thought it would be fun to bring her back to running shape.

I am a dunce, if y'all need to email me anything I can be contacted at harleyfan88@hotmail.com

All the manuals you need will be here for free:

Look here for manuals:

http://www.twinslan.net/~n0nas/manuals/onan/

Once you open link then hit control and F, then up at the top left will be a search box, type in 2.5LK and hit search and the model will be highlighted.

I believe all the LK sets were 1800 rpm.

$25! You got a deal, as long as it turns over and is mostly complete, nice job!! As stated above, manuals are free and downloadable. Advice and help on here is also a huge knowledge bank. Most of the folks on here have forgoten more then I will ever know.
I too have an LK that is just about next on the list to get repaired and back to its old self. From what I have read and found out they are a nice unit.
Post some pics of it. Go down to manage attachments and pic the file you want to load, then hit the download and when they finish loading, hit the close window and then post. Hope I remembered all the steps, Oh well, congrats on the green beast and welcome!

I have been trying to find the answer to this question several different ways and I feel like I have been chasing my tail. I broke the main needle jet while I was trying to straighten it out. Does anyone know what the Walbro part number is so I can get it from them or am I going to have to go directly to Onan?

Good news folks, even though I can't start her, I put a battery on her and she turns over without a hitch. When I saw that, I thought it would be a good time to check and see if she was getting fire. I pulled the plug wire off and held the start switch, a thick blue spark jumped a quarter of an inch gap, it was a very pleasant surprise. Although, I realized that the lawn tractor battery is way too small for the green machine, it drained it to 70%.

Ok folks, she is running and producing voltage. The problem that I am having is that, the engine is surging back and forth. My voltage goes from 118 to 127 roughly. I read the manual and for some reason I'm not getting how to adjust the idle speed needle, the governor spring nut and the throttle stop. I did screw in the throttle stop screw in all the way and that stopped the governor from going up and down. As I understand from reading posts that this is not the correct way to adjust things. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Clean the carb.. when you have the carb off manually pump the fuel pump and get any junk in the line out that may go in the carb right after you clean it..

That or you have a carb to engine gasket leak sucking air.

Once it's running good set the idle screw and hold the governor to it so it's making 100 volts.. let it go and if the main jet is adjusted right it should jump back quickly to 124 to 128 volts unloaded

The fuel pump wasn't working so I just bypassed it and ran fuel directly to the carb so it is just gravity fed. I cleaned the carb while I was waiting for a new high speed needle and it was already remarkably clean. I will run her and spray a little WD 40 Around the gasket and see if she speed up. Thank you for the set-up procedure.

Starting fluid works better to check for leaks.. not as think as wd40..

When you cleaned the carb did you remove the main jet inside the carb? All it takes it a little bit of junk in one of many tiny holes to make it hunt.. if it's not a leaking gasket

Sounds like the surging is caused by the idle passages being plugged.

Be careful removing the main jet on a Walbro LMG193 carburetor used on the LK. At the factory the main jet was screwed into place, then a very small idle passage was drilled into the main jet. If you unscrew it, you will probably not be able to index the holes, and there will be no fuel flowing in the idle passages. The replacement jet has an annular ring cut into the threads to correct this problem. Or you can do what I did, use a moto-tool to cut the ring.
