Default Onan 6.5NH3CR/12014D swap with 6.5NHEFA26100D

I'm new to the forum but spend hours here reading the incredible posts by some very knowledgable people. That's why I'm here. Thank you in advance!
I'm hoping I can swap and older 6.5kw for a newer 6.5kw generator without too many issues. I'm hoping someone can advise me on what problems I may face and things I may need to be aware of.
77 dodge motorhome. 440 was replaced with a 5.9L turbo deisel in '93. The gen I'm wanting to pull and replace still runs on gasoline.
6.5NH3CR/12014D
To be swapped with,
6.5NHEFA26100D Emerald III GenSet

I hope this new gen will be comparable with existing breaker panel, power inverters etc. I'm not really worried about the LP or any other fuel other than gasoline at the moment.

Enough info I hope.
Thank you again for any guidance you can provide.

I can offer no specific advice, but if you did the 440 to Cummins swap, your proposed generator replacement will be a walk in the park in comparison.

I have a 7NHM that's very similar to the 6.5 NHE and I like it but I;m using it for house backup and it's rectangular box package is helpfull for storage outside. But I think the guys here will say your better off with the old NH. Down side of NH is it needs a good big fooking bat to start it. NHE has an external starter like a car so needs less cranking amps.

NHE does have a few failure modes, mostly if gen sits for months and you don't clean the slip rings before making AC then ~ $220 AC votlage reg can die.

Few other issues is bat charging diode bridge is not fused and if it shorts from overheating it can fry the bat charger windings. But easy to add a fuse to protect against that.

You might want to visit the Twinslan site and download manuals for both generators: http://www.twinslan.net/~n0nas/manuals/onan/

The install manuals are:
940-0610 NH install
965-0628 NHE install

The service and parts manuals are there as well.

I would suggest you mount the generator on slides so it can be easily accessed whenever service is required.

Good advise. I will take note and watch that

Thank you!

Thanks for the manuals. That will be put to use.
I'm not sure if I should try finding a used slide from a junked RV or have my good friend who's a retired iron worker, weld me up a custom frame. The first thing that comes to mind is all the misc wires and exhaust that's go thru the floor.
Thank you. Great info.

Are you using any 220 in the RV at present? That NHE will be 120 only, although some folks think that some NHE's might be convertible. I have a 6.5NH and a 6.5NHE sitting about 5 feet from eachother and the NHE looks smaller to me.

I don't use any 220. Although having the ability to run 220 would be cool

if you do not have any 240 volt loads stick with 120V
no need to change the existing 120V RV wiring and
no need to balance the 120V loads on the split 240V

He can change the generator to 220 without changing the rv wiring the breakers are probably already split 2 on one leg and two one the other leg of the generator if not there easy to split.
