We had original hubs for both the extension rims and the rear wheels. The original rims we had were used as water tanks and all the spokes were cut out. The T-bars that mount the spokes to the rim remained. We salvaged these T-bars and welded them to new spokes.

This is the new rim with old lugs riveted on. You can also see the new spokes and part of the old T-bars which were riveted to the new wheel.

That is beautiful work. When i started collecting i couldn't afford steel wheels (or i thought i couldn't) but i could still pick up cutoffs that farmers fortunately saw fit not to scrap for some reason. I welded up many, at first i wondered how strong they would be and some folks told me they would surely fail, some said they would be okay. Many years of plowing later proved they were okay, even the spliced ones, but i sure hated the grinding. I will weld them up all day every day, but that grinding is for the birds.

Here's some new photos. Only have a few things left before we're ready to start. Still planning to have her running this fall.

Dan

What an absolutely fabulous project the Titan is. I love the original finish even on the new parts. You should be proud of this great tractor.

Very Impressive. I look forward to the video. be sure to have someone on standby filming the first time is runs.
I like to do that with any tractor I bring back to life!

Great Job!

That looks beautiful! Did you do any work on the cab? I noticed in some of the pictures the cab bottom looked a little rusty when you brought it home.

Man that is something. Way to create something from nothing. I would love to attack something like that some day. Impressive. Research time is one of those things you cant hardly account for.

It’s been five years since we began the 45 Titan Air Start Project. It’s been a long journey with many twists and turns. We never would have made it without the help of so many people along the way. Today we belted the tractor up to the old Farmall H and with some luck the old girl fired up! He’s a short video of her first few breaths.

Congrats on a job well done! I'm sure glad the 4020 didn't have a belt pulley on it! Jason

Dan: “THANKS” for sharing your five year journey with us. The most I’ve ever done is one year on a project that was just an IHC Side Shaft engine with a “few” less missing parts . I bet the adrenalin was just a pumping when she first fired and ran on her own . I could feel the excitement. As with these extended, complex projects it takes a lot to keep on it. With help from friends (old and new) you stayed with it, and got it running . We know that there is more to do . Thanks again for sharing with us on SmokStak. Paul-OLDIHC
