Thank you very much for sharing as I had no idea something like that existed. What are the odds of finding one of these to buy somewhere..? Sure would love to find one for my engine also.. Thanks again..

Our family has owned well over 50 Otto engines. I don't believe a single one of them ever came with a coil that you could say was a genuine Otto coil. I think I have only seen a couple of them on here. It would truly be a cool find.

The coils have the engine ser no. stamped in them. The 1 I have is 6473 but unfortunately it doesn't match my engine. Rob

I am sure it wouldn't be too hard to duplicate with the dimensions from an original Coil. There is probably plans out there for a little digging that would give the number of turns. Just a thought!

Wow, that's a hefty coil. You could almost weld with that thing!

It should be possible to reproduce that coil, if you could find the silk-wrapped wire. The core appears to be iron wire, easily available, and the wood could be crafted. The wire might be another issue, however, unless one had an old transformer, relay or other coil that could be scavenged for the wire. Otherwise, enameled magnet wire would have to be used.

Originally there was some kind of paper wrapping around the windings. You could hide modern magnet wire under that.

Tommy i'll bring it along to Coolsprings with some weld leads and we can try it out. Rob
