Default Caterpillar d2

Picked this up this weekend. going to need some work and parts. Where is the best place to get gaskets and some engine parts? Also anybody know what year it might be? 3J640 is the serial number

Gaskets, most likley Olson Gaskets. You may be able to get some parts from your local Cat dealer. Florin Tractor in Ca. That is a start. If you don't get a parts book as it will help a lot in getting parts #s. You can make a friend of any of the dealersif you have a part # in hand while talking to them.

3J640 is a 1938, the first year of production.

The one I have is 8B2727. Came off a U series D2, it may work but I don't know.
It's cast Aluminum, I think the J's are steel...

Thanks for looking. I will have to do some research to see if it will work. I figured out today I am going to have to pull the pony motor to change it.
