Default Onan 7.5 HDKAJ

Hi,
I have a 1997 Beaver motorhome with an Onan diesel generator.
I have changed oil & filter, & replaced the fuel lines.
I followed the instructions on priming & started the generator.
When it starts, it will run for 20 seconds & quit, It will start every time, & quit every time.
The engine sounds strong when running, there is plenty of fuel at the intake line, the fuel pump makes a purring sound when priming & does not stop until you release the switch.
I can start it many times but it always runs for 20 seconds & stops.
Does anyone have an idea ???

Does it run OK after you take your finger off of the start switch, just shuts down in 20 seconds? If so, it is one of the safety circuits shutting down on either low oil pressure or high engine temperature. Oil pressure switch is on the side of the engine, temperature is at the thermostat housing, one side is the switch, other side is the temperature gauge sender, if you have one.

Hi,

Look at the start / stop switch on the generator when it stops. If the amber light is flashing 3 times, pause, 3 times repeat, then press stop once and release. this will bring up the second level trouble codes. Count the flashes for example: four flashes, pause, five flashes, pause repeat, would be a code 45. Then check your manual or call your Onan dealer. There are many different codes for different problems. Hope this helps.
