Default Le Roi battery polarity

The Le Roy D176 I recently picked up has a battery (which is totally dead) hooked up to it as positive ground. Does anyone know if this is correct polarity? I can’t seem to find anything in the “instruction and part manual” which came with it about this.

Most likely it came from the factory wired positive ground. Positive ground was pretty much standard until the introduction of alternators in the early 60's.

That would be the case for 6 volt systems. When the manufacturers went to 12 volt, most went to negative ground. A lot of trucks were 12 volt positive, until autos switched out. When alternators came out many went to negative. If your engine has a generater, you can reverse polarity if you 'polorize the regulater. If you have a delco unit, battery positive to the armature will do it. You cannot swop leads with an alternator!
