Default Onan RDJC Charging circuit

Can someone tell me if the rectifier mount/heat sink gets isolated from the chassis? Not sure i understand how it works with no isolator.
I see the soldered wire is on the plus side and it goes to amp meter, other side goes to the generator winding wire.

There are insulating washers between the rectifier and the plate on both sides, the stud on the back is connected to the B2 connection on the terminal block strip and the top of the rectifier is connected to one side of the Ammeter. There is no electrical connection to the heat sink plate. Cheers Dan

Stud diodes typically use mica washers with plastic tube to keep metal of diode and heat sink from touching.

If diode is bad can use one section of a bridge diode , they are self insulated, but I'ld use a bridge rated at 2x the amps of stud diode it replaces.

Thanks for the input.

I finished my control panel and tested, had to change things a couple of times but now its perfect.

It has start and stop , glow plug , high heat shut down and low oil shut down.
ammeter, oil pressure and water temp gauges. I tested out all the functions and its good to go. with a failure I even made an idiot light that comes on to show what failed, one over water gauge and one over the oil pressure gauge. I put on a bunch of led lights for everything and a couple of extra switches and diamond plate face just to make it look cool.

For fun im going to install an altimeter off of my vintage Honda Goldwing. See if anyone gets it. Yes for some reason Honda put an altimeter on their goldwings in the early 80's.

How many folks are using an AC powered battery tender instead of the original charging circuit?

Exactly 4,634 people. (self included, though I haven't disconnected the original charging circuit )

my ammeter is pegged to discharge side. I saw a thread where they indicated it was likely bad diode rectifier.

I thought of using battery charger instead of the winding but what the heck still would like it to work. There are lots of diodes for sale and some are similar but have slight different specs.
The diode on this one decodes to:

Microsemi
1N1126AR
12a 100v-1200v standard recovery rectifier in DO-4

Can someone tell me what would be a reasonable replacement?
There are tons on ebay for not much but I don't have the expertise in this field.

battery tenders are great for tending

but when the generator runs the load of other stuff comes on

run relays, spark coils, gas valves, diesel shut down solenoids

connected to the battery in stead of the load side of a zero center amp meter
you will not know if the tender alone is enough to keep the generator running.

Sounds ok, Diodes are a standard commodity item, everyone sells them. They're like nuts and bolts.

12 amp size sounds reasonable, pennies more to go higher if you want.

400- 1200 PIV voltage rating is reasonable, pennies more to go higher towards 800-1200 PIV.
