Default Onan Parts from Sears?

Reading here about the future of Sears not looking good I ordered some Onan parts from Sears on the 23rd of March. No parts yet. I understand their suppliers want their money before they ship the parts. They keep Emailing me with new updates on delivery dates. Is this happening to anyone else?

Just make sure you dispute the charge with your credit card co. before the 60 days expire if you see no merchandise.

I am getting spammed with "Back-ordered" emails from them. One part I already found a used equivalent and installed. That proves how much faith I have in them ever delivering, which is to say they probably won't. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for a few more weeks before reversing charges.

Sears strung me along on a fuel gauge for an ONAN "AUX" for about 7 months, with constant "updates" like you got. I finally called them and they said they were never gonna get the part. That was a year or two ago. Maybe they were already in trouble by then.

But, ya know, Sears doesn't MAKE anything, as far as I know. In this case, after a LOT of research, I was able to get what I needed from the actual manufacturer.
BTW, right after I got the gauge and reported the whole mess here, somebody, (sorry I forgot who) gave me an Ebay link to the same gauge!!!!!

It's all about getting your search criteria right!!!

7 months. Dang. You get your money back or just cut bait?

OnanParts says the items I ordered don't exist. They have Onan part numbers in the parts manual and are listed on the Sears site but yah...don't exist. The DK series seems like a hole in the Onan universe and many of the purists must regard that unit as a bastard child since it is Kubota powered. They are probably right. The last good luck on a part I had was taken off a tractor.

It just is amazing how frustrating it is to get the really LOW TECH parts that are still somewhat model specific. Like brackets, exhaust parts and even a simple thermostat cover. Where do all these parts go when someone parts out a set? The trash? Sears offered hope and has failed miserably. Kinda like giving a junkie a job as a good will gesture and then having to fire them for not showing up to work. Not surprising but still sucks.

What parts are you looking for. I have been known to track down some pretty odd parts. Forgot to add. Talked to a local that has a son that works for SEARS. He says not to bother ordering parts from Sears. He claims they have 2-3 months before they shut the doors. From what he has seen.

Thermostat housing/water neck for a MDK series. Sorry can't find the part number for that. The DKD one is quite different.

NPT exhaust manifold adapter flange to a DKD. 154-2485. Or something that will fit that bill.

Any of the DKD radiator mounting brackets.

J series intake adapter 140-0645.

Most of these I have found already, on parts sets that are far away and cost 800-2000 dollars, since if you buy the one small part for 2000 dollars you get the rest of it for free!

If I had a plasma cutter and a welder I could probably just fab this stuff but I don't.

I went in to our local Sears store in San Luis Obispo and it feels like you are walking in to a Morgue. The shelves have stuff on them but it is scant. I had Sears as a delivery stop when I worked for UPS. This was early '80's. I'd drop off 40-50 pieces a day and they were going gang busters. They also had an Appliance parts and repair store across town that was always busy. That folded 25 years ago when the Kmarts and Walmarts came to town.

Might as well reverse the charges now.

I guess my 50 year old craftsmen tools don't really have a lifetime warranty anymore...

Still good but only if you kick the bucket before they break.

Well I hit a sensitive spot, 12 posts in 4 hours. I just ordered some nice to have gaskets (which I could probably make) an end bearing for the bell which I am sure I could buy locally and a spare governor spring which I suppose I can find locally also. It was just nice to order them. But I will keep an eye on the 60 day time period.

there are plenty of stories suppliers to sears can tell.
they were always tight fist purchasers.

our last dishwasher purchase was a from sears
but I won't shed a tear when they are gone.

Sears surprised me today and delivered some of the parts, including the really hard to find Kubota NPT exhaust flange!
