Default Onan 5CCK spec U reviving

I first started this project on this trend.
https://www.smokstak.com/forum/showt...51#post1363951
Here is the story. I drove to Tulsa Oklahoma and bought this unit. Story was it ran a few years ago and had been sitting and generator bearing locked up. So I buy the unit and bring It home.
Model is 5.0 CCK-3CR/16000U
Serial is B770209113E
After I get a wiring diagram (thanks Billy J Shafer) I tear apart the generator side after carefully putting wiring labels on everything. After than the motor still will not spin. My heart sank at this point. So I pull the heads and fin water and mud in one of the cylinders. I attached 2 pics, one when I first took of the head and the second after cleaning out the mud. I know the guys story is false. I'm not sure how this happened. Maybe it was in a flood. On the Previous thread Kpack indicated he had some parts. So I contacted him, worked out a deal and drove to texas to pick them up. A big thanks to u Kpack. I have combined parts and actually got the unit to run for a few seconds while spaying sparring fluid in the carb. I know it's far from finished but I now have brighter spirits. On the original unit I had to fix the following issues before it would start.
1. Starting solenoid was only alowing 1.2 volts thru. Thanks to Kpack I had a spare.
2. Now gen would turn. No fire, found wiring wrong to ignition relay.
3. Still not fire, but power to coil, points to far open.
Now I have fire. Next step is to rebuild carb. Waiting for parts from onanparts. My plan is to install this unit on the back of my 5th wheel. Only part I'm missing is a cover for the unit. I can build one, but rather use a factory on. If anyone has one, let me now.
I will post on this as I make progress. And will close with a u tube video of the unit running, per Kpack's request.

Be CAREFUL adding that much weight to the back of your camper. You are taking weight off the 5 th wheel hitch.

i actually had a 5cck that looked just like that on one side. well not quite that bad.

i cleaned it up, honed out the cylinder and it ran very nicely after that.

these are some very tuff engines that can take some abuse.

just imagine how long they would last if not abused and taken care of properly.

The weight won't be a problem. I ran the numbers and my 5th wheel is already 9000lbs unloaded. The fuel cell will be in the basement and vented outside the camper which will add more weight to the hitch. But when I'm finished I will run it by the local coop and check my wheel weights

My issue was not having enough material left for the valve seats. The cylinders would of probably cleaned up with an over sized piston.

The block looked great. Valve seats where good. The cylinser walls had no wear. Thanks Kpack

What is the best way to replace the generator ball bearing. How does everyone get the cover off and press the bearing back togather?

I would spray around the cover and where the bearing is. Let it soak overnight the cover will pry off once the nuts are removed. Just be careful when you pry on it. The bearing will come off with a punch and a hammer. Just be careful not to hit the windings. Down load the manual from the twinslan site it will explain it all.

Careful to not lose the clip on the bearing when removing the outer casing. the clip keeps the outer race of the bearing from spinning in the outer case.

I got the unit running and everything adjusted per the manuals. Did a load test. Everything ran within spec except the voltage was a little low, 208-210 volts. Frequency was 63.5-63.8. After a short dip to 59 hz when load was first applied. No load voltage was 248 and hertz was 62. I adjusted governor per manual with the booster disconnected. Should I lower the governor set point?
Video here of unit running with and with out load. It started flooded, which had not happened before. I still need to install muffler.
