Default 87 Onan 4000 Emerald 1 in Class C

Picked up a RV has an Onan generator I can't get it to turn over or anything. I filled the fuel tank up half way. I've got power according to my test light at the battery lead going into the generator but the remote start nor the unit start switch does anything. It is a
40.bge-1r/2600c.
I tried to slide the unit out on the rails from under the RV with couldn't get it to move more than a few inches due to the wire bundle. What should I do. any help is greatly appreciated

They probably taped the wire bundle somehow after sliding it in. The experts will be along in a minute. Good pictures of it pulled out will help them.

Your Manuals and link to them.
Your gen is spec C ( version number)

BGE-BGEL spec a-c SERVICE--(5-89)--- 965-0530.pdf <-----------read this one
BGE, BGEL PARTS--spec A-E---965-0232.pfd.pdf
BGE-BGEL OPERATOR---965-0130.pdf
BGE-BGEL--INSTALL---965-0630.pdf

http://www.twinslan.net/~n0nas/manuals/onan/

Check that you have +12V at pin 6 of control board.
I like to use a test light and jab the ground into frame of gen, need to see if gen frame is grounded to bat.
See schematic on service manual page 8-3 or 8-5

Ok, so I only have my phone and can't open PDF files..
I checked and do have 12.5v at pin number 6.. Can't get any response out of it with the start switch though.

Got it to turn over once ( didn't try for more) by jumping the solenoid. Not sure whats next

Try unplugging remote start/stop switch from gen at the gen, and try to start gen with start switch on gen. Sometimes RV wiring shorts out.

----------------

When you press start button the control board should power up following control board pins with bat voltage ( something like 10-13 VAC):

pin 3 ------ powers spark coil, fuel pump, and a relay
pin 2 ------ powers starter relay/solinoid

Put a test light between frame and those pins , it should light when you press start button either on control board or remote.

If it doesn't then unplug remote switch at the gen, and try again.

If don't get power on those pins then control board is likely bad.
Flight Systems has good aftermarket replacement boards that are not priced like they are made of solid gold.

Ok update. No power on pin 2 or 3 at anytime. Only on pin 6

Board should output ~ 9-13 V on pins 2 and 3 when you press start button.

Check that you still have 12V across pins 6 and 8 WHILE you press the start button, possible you have a bad/corroded power connection or wire

If you have 12V across pins 6 and 8 then the control board is likely bad.

We recommend Flight Systems for replacement boards, they make very good quality boards at a reasonable price.

Well...... anything can be by-passed for testing or use. But for routine use good idea not to.

The control board has conveniences and few safeties built in, and it allows remote starting. Convenience is not having to flash genhead to get it making AC every time you start engine. Some safties are automatic shut down of engine on low oil pressure ( saves your $1000+ engine). Automatic shut off of starter after engine starts so you don't chew up the starter gear if you don't release start button ( like if your using remote and music is too loud to hear engine.start). Also if something goes wrong with genhead and it doesn't make AC then control board shuts engine off.

Control board is ~ $100-125 from flight systems, and they gaurentee their parts for ~ 2 years.

I highly recommend flight systems replacement as well. Installed one 4 years ago in our emerald 1 and no problems since. Very knowledgeable company to deal with.
