On my picture I circled in pink where the F1 and F2 leads will go ( a resistor will be wired in series with the F1 lead. For the remaining 1 ,2 leads I believe they will go to the terminals circled in white. Sounds like on either the 1 or 2 lead a 5A 250V fuse should be wired in series. Any idea which lead should fuse should be on and which of the 2 terminals (circled in white) do the 1 and 2 wires lead to. Again all help is greatly appreciated.
No rookie error - you're fine. Not sure what Leon was getting at...

Put the fuse in whatever is the 'hot' wire. You might want to 'ohm' these two wires from your JB set out and see which one connects to neutral and which is 'hot'. These two wires basically carry 120V to your SX460. One is hot, the other isn't.

It's not. This thread pertains mainly to the YD sets. The SX460 isn't a suitable replacement for the slip ring sets, such as the magneciter, Leon.

terminals 1 and 2 supply 120 vac;you must add a jumper on the sx460 to operate at this voltage input, otherwhise its 240 volts sensing.

I can test in the morning but do you recall which wire is hot ? (1 or 2). I'm waiting on parts to get the set running so I was hoping to start on the wiring tomorrow. Tricky (for me) to test if it's not outputting power. So far this has been a very interesting project. I'm clearly in over my head a bit but like the challenge as well. This site has been a savior to me, without it I'm sure the set would have been a mooring anchor by now.

Did your set have a 'field breaker' in the control box?

(has the snow all melted yet up there in God's country?)

To use the SX460 with the JB you will need one more jumper on the board than they supply. The two sets of upper jumpers will have to be shorted ie the one for 120-240 sensing and the one for remote voltage adjust as well. The lower jumper should be in the 60Hz position. So the 1-2 Jumper is installed and the 3-4 jumper is installed. It would appear on the diagram that they are recommending that the fuse or circuit breaker be installed on the wire going to pin 8. Cheers Dan

Haha we still have some snow hanging around but bulk is gone now. Yes , the set does have the field breaker.

Dan, thanks you clarified many of the questions I had now only one remains. Of the two wires (#1 and #2) on the set which one will go to 8? I apologize if my questions are basic and tedious but I tend to err on the safe side when possible.

Given that it is AC Im not sure it makes a difference. If you really want to get technical you can measure the resistance to ground/neutral on both the 1 and 2 leads and take the one that has the higher resistance to connect to pin 8 through the fuse or circuit breaker. That is because the 1 and 2 leads are taken off the T1 and T2 stator windings. T2 should be connected to neutral which would make T1 the hot lead. Cheers Dan

I do intend to use the existing circuit breaker but would a fuse still be a good idea or is that just redundant?

If the regulator is capable of 240 volt sensing, connecting it for such will result in considerably better regulation that is possible if connected for 120 volt sensing.

Vanman, now that is getting a bit over my head. What would be the pros/cons to setting it up in that manner? I'm currently undecided on where I will use the set. I have two options, a remote hunting cabin which it would be used for 120v only (using only one leg of the ac output) or a possible backup for my home. For home use I would use both legs of the ac.
