Default Flying Dutchman 2 1/2 hp or 2 hp Stover K?

Have been away from the hobby for some time. Life and kids happened. Now glad to be back at it. Picked up A nice original Economy engine. For one of my twins. And now have a chance at either a Flying Dutchman or a Stover K for the other twin. Gong to be winter projects for the boys. I can get either one for about the same price. The Dutchman looks to be very solid. Do not see any real problems with it. No cracks or welds. Even has the original crank guard. Seems good and tight. But I know next to nothing about them. Or have not been able to find any parts or decals for them. I have not even been able to fid a pic of original markings for them.

The stover seems nice but has a weld on the spark plug-mag bracket. The crank guard is fiberglass. And I will be in need of some new bearings. But parts seem easy to find.

Any ideas on value? Or witch one would be the better one to get? Thanks for any help!!!!!

Would you rather be another guy with a Stover at an engine show, or the ONLY one there with a Flying Dutchman?

The Flying Dutchman is actually built by Alamo. You see them most commonly tagged as Rock Island. They are nice heavy built engines. I see it has a Webster magneto too. Definitively go with the Dutchman! The Stover KA is very common and that one has some issues.

Thanks everyone. The Flying Dutchman it is. Anyone have an idea ballpark what it should be worth in that condition? I just want to make sure I donít pay too much. I think I can get it pretty darn cheap

I can't see the other side so its impossible to see if any parts are not correct, welded, etc. But from your picture the only flaw I see is the wood pulley. That being said, $600-800 would be a good estimate.

No cracks no welds no missing parts. All gears still good and tight. Great compression. Was running a few years ago. Does not look like it ever got use much as it has next to no where on the gears

I guess Iíve been out of the game for way too long. I figured with its rarity it would be worth a lot more than that. With the cart and all. I do wish it still had the correct pulley for sure I would imagine the correct Poli would be just about impossible to find
