Re: Portland 8/26/16
I've sent off this letter:
This year's show was the largest that I have experienced in attending the event for the
past 4 years. Unfortunately, the vehicular traffic was also the worst in as many
years. The combination of golf carts,UTV's and pedestrians made for very, very
dangerous and aggravating situations-far more of them than any of you are aware of.
More than one staff member voluntarily expressed their concerns and frustration
about this situation to me in casual conversation.
It is time to eliminate the use of UTV's and restrict the use of golf carts to those with
genuine medical limitations .(80% of those driving should be walking, given their
over-weight condition). These vehicle operators were all attempting to view the
vendors wares from their seat, and not at all concerned about what effect this had upon
those on foot attempting to do the same.
The T-SGE&TA will be doing itself a favor in reducing it's liability, reducing
complaints such as this, and making the show considerably more enjoyable
for all who attend, there by increasing gate revenue.
For any board member in doubt of the above described situation,I suggest they
send out post-event questionnaires ; that will confirm my comments.
Rewrite the vehicle rules for the 2017 Show, so that all attendees may enjoy it.”
I used the common sense approach- assuming that committee in fact has some of that. Nowadays, a much greater chance of success is achieved if one can strike a chord with either the 20-30 somethings and their quest for a 'risk free' life, or with the 'child worshipers' and their offspring that might be denied something really important(like that latest video);I chose not to use either category(of idiots).
Provided that I receive a reply-and I won't hold my breath-I'll share that as well......
Re: Portland 8/26/16
I was at the Portland show for 6 days and I had my golf cart with me. I used it every day. Whenever I stopped to look at something, I would find a place to park the cart. Always tried to be alert and watch out for people.
I think the carts are a necessity for the show due to the age of most in attendance. I can't imagine trying to see everything by walking the show. I know I would be exhausted in short order walking isle after isle.
I understand the concerns posted here. Like others, I feel that the UTVs are too big and should not be used. Mobility scooters would somewhat ease the congestion. There is no easy answer, but asking hundreds of 60 something people to walk the show is not going to happen.
Just my opinion.
