Default Cushman WICO EK

We have a new to us Cushman with the Wico
EK mag. The spring that goes from the
coil to the bakelite in the mag cover does not
line up. If you remove the bakelite the solder
lug on the coil is off to one side of the center
of the hole.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help!

Try turning the cover around.

Did that but the hole in the cover is still off
center and the wire is in the road of the
advance mech.
Thanks for the reply.

The coil most likely rotated on the core over time. If you can gently turn it by hand you might be able to position correctly and then carefully lock it in place with some plastic or wood pushed in between the core and the coil ID. If the coil doesn't want to turn you'll have to slide it off and reinstall in correct position and then again lock it in place with plastic/wood etc. Good luck.

Button rotation on the EKs is common. If the outer cover is torn or deformed, you probably will need to replace the coils. Don't try to re-solder it, you will ruin the secondaries (if not shot already). Check that the one under the copper ground spring on the other side, is also in alignment. There ia also a small spring that attaches the secondary windings between the 2 coils. Be sure it is in place also.

The outer cover is in perfect condition. I will look at the
spring between the two in the morning.
Thanks for the advise!
