Default Honda EM5000SXA Generator won't start

Hi,

Honda Generator
Model EM5000SXA
Frame No. EM5000S-1008277
Engine No. GC05-1050746

The choke had been sticky and reluctant to release despite being lubed when it was serviced last year.
I took it apart and made sure all the parts moved freely.
The auto-choke vacuum diaphragm looked to be in good shape.
Put it all back together.
Now it wont start.

I found that I could get it to start by holding the throttle mostly off (pushing it left) with my finger until engine just kicks over, then releasing it (see picture).
Then it runs fine.

The throttle and auto-throttle lever are in position shown when engine is off (auto-throttle switch is off).
Auto-throttle works otherwise.

I dont see anything else that would hold the throttle off.
The governor works fine when it's running.
Should the auto-throttle lever do this?
Is there something I could have mucked up in the choke assembly?
What am I missing here?

On the upside, the choke now seems to work great

TIA,
Ken

Default Re: Honda EM5000SXA Generator won't start

Resolved!

I found that the manual choke pin was on the wrong side of the vacuum choke pin.
So when the manual choke was pulled, instead of forcing the vacuum choke to hold the butterfly closed, it was actually not allowing the vacuum choke to do it's thing - because the manual pin just got in the way.
So the butterfly was only closed about 3/4 of the way.

I dont know how it got like this - I didnt disassemble this piece.
It's possible the shop did it when I got it serviced last year.

Whatever caused it, it's fixed now.
Starts and runs like a champ!
