I'm reasonably sure that I have a similar set in my "good junk pile".

IIRC, the carb is on it and doesn't look too bad.

I found a complete engine for my ES3500 on Craigslist. It is still on the generator and complete.Only problem was is it is in California and I'm in Florida.I got FedEx to pick it up and it's on the way.I only needed the carb so if anyone needs a good G90 long block I got one on the way.

Those early engines on the 3500's were bulletproof. They have a roller bearing rod on a heavy crank supported by big ball bearings. You can and of course many did run them out of oil and the piston would seize. But the crank was untouched. Acid swab the aluminum off the cylinder, a quick hone and feed it a new piston and they'd run another bazillion hours.
You can identify them by a crankcase that splits horizontally.

The later engines had a side cover and use a conventional plain bearing rod as it was a cheaper engine to make. The newer engines also vibrated a lot more which would shake the carb linkage apart and lasted perhaps 1/3 as long as the oldie goodie ones.

By all means fix it as it's made many times better than the new stuff from Honda. Unless of course you run into head gen head parts grief such as the regulator. Then ya gotta get creative.

I bought one of those with a blown engine, had a hole in the block, just for the gen head.
Advertised the engine for parts on CL and shipped it across country to a guy who had a unit with a good block but had caught on fire.
I sold him the engine for $20 but shipping was EXPENSIVE

I just bought a ES3500 from a guy way out in California.
It had a great complete engine with the carb assembly that I needed to fix mine.
The gen head was gone.
I had Fedex grab it they shipped it here to me in Florida.
Very tight engine, smooth and quiet with no smoke or blowby.
Only needed the carb and air cleaner assembly so I might sell the engine eventually.

I would say just keep looking on Ebay parts will come up sooner or later and when they do grab them. Those parts are beyond obsolete

There are two versions of that engine.
Mine was the older and did not have roller bearings on the rod and it went through the block when it broke, I think I paid $75 for it. The oil looked like tar and it was obvious why it blew.
At the time parts were available for the newer version but that was maybe 17 years ago.
