Thanks for the link. I wonder what a new inverter costs?

Prices like that are why I wouldn't own an inverter gen.

Agreed Len. I like spare parts but that price is too high for me to buy a spare and put it on the shelf. The only positive thing I can say about it is it looks very easy to swap one out.

Buy a spare used non-inverter old Onan, almost never dies even at 50 years old. Old ones are more reliable than any new ones.

On the Onan side they made an inverter gen for a diesel. ~$1500 for inverter sitting in a cardboard box. Can buy a used Onan non-inverter gen of same ~7kw for ~ $500-600 that almost never fails. Fuel is cheap compared to new parts. Can't save enough fuel to break even if have to replace inverter.

I've been looking at the MEP 803a. A lot of them on E-bay. I always wanted a Honda EB12d. The MEP 803a is the best I think I could do at this point. A few thinks are stopping me. They look complicated to fix. I would have to mount a wheel kit or buy a pallet jack to move it around. I couldn't store as much diesel as I can gas. I have no way to rotate it. The MEP's look like they need to be exercised a lot more than the Honda EU7000.

A heat gun can release that epoxy potting. The trick is to get a friendly Honda person to provide schematic to the inverter unit. Companies dont do that usually. Often its a few dollars in parts that go wrong with it, but rather than fix that, spend an obsend amoubt of money of 600-800 for an inverter this size.
