Generally, advertisements are not allowed in the forums, but I'm guessing there isn't a connection between Bingham Machinery & Don.

What does make me curious though is the detailed description:

Quote:
6 side walls, new fire grates, ultrasound tested 5 years ago, never been certified.

One Owner Illinois
New Tubes 20 years ago
Original papers and bill of sale
blow out plug has never been blwon out (machine has never been hot)
What are "6 side walls"? "Blow out plug has never been blwon out (machine has never been hot)" Um, Ok, are they talking about the soft plug or a blow down? Gee, if the machine was never "hot," how did they produce steam?

If it was ultra sounded, could there be a reason that it was not "certified?"

Sounds like a project engine for someone. I hope it finds a good home here in the US.

Beth

I have a feeling they're referring to the fusible plug. I'd sure hope it hadn't ever been blown out...

Hi Guys,
There is a lovely little portable in Belguim that was found in it's original packing crate. I think its about a 4 horse Ransomes. You can still see the hammer marks on the rivets, on the faces of the tyres.
Regards,
Fred

Boogie,

You may have hit upon the solution! I've never heard of a firebox being described as such....but then again, I learn something new every day.

Eric,

Soft/fusible plugs are made to melt which while not a preferred water monitoring method, is what they are designed to do.

KGB,

What is the skinny on this engine? Will the KGB add a new member or just another engine to your stables?

Beth

Beth,

If you could give me a interest free loan with deferred payments, I could bring that one home and provide you with all the information you seek... :0

Travis,

I'll set you right up!

This would increase your collection to 1/2 scale, 16 & now an 18! The 160 is next!

Beth, I know that. The problem I have is that someone running the engine was that careless! Because of that, if I was the buyer, I'd expect an engine with a blown plug could have a host of hidden issues, and would warrant VERY stringent and careful inspection.
