Photo Sears & Roebuck air compressor with briggs N engine

Hello everyone

I am trying to track down any info I can on this Air compressor. It appears to be an Air Compressor that was sold by Sears and Roebuck using a Briggs model N engine and Bendix Westinghouse pump. I used the Sears model number (500.306115) to date the engine as a 1945. It's rather unusually because it's pipe frame is the holding tank for the air. Have any of you every seen one of these before? Any Help would be great. Thanks Wallace Merritt

Wallace, it looks just like the one that is for sale by HitnMiss Enterprises, a sponsor on this site. It is listed under their engines for sale. http://www.hitnmiss.com/photos/engines/259.jpg. Yuo might give them a call to find out more about it.

Tom

I did send an email to them right after I saw your reply today but I haven't heard any thing as of yet. That is the only other one I have been able to find on the internet. Thanks for the help.

Hello Wallace.

The ones I've seen like yours were military. They always seem to go for more than I want to spend. Do you ever go to the Derwood MD show that's held in April?

Derek

I am new to the site...great...

My Dad after WWII worked as a mechanic at Ft Stewart Georgia, for the
Army around 1945-46. He had a really nice 39 Ford pickup as a work
truck that was his but all of tools belonged to Uncle Sam.

He had an air compressor exactly like this that was military. He had a length
of channel iron that he used as a ramp to get it in and out. Can't remember
the year but they closed the base and almost everyone lost their jobs. When he
went to turn in all of this tools and old Army Sargent supposedly told him
that it was took much trouble to check the stuff back in and that he could
keep everything on his truck...just paint the green and grind off the name plates. I don't know if the sargent really told him that, but he ended up with
a truck load of tools of every kind anyway.

He had it for years, don't know what happened to it. I got a few items when
he died.

Thanks for the info. So it seems that this may be a military air compressors. I had never seen any thing like it. Thought it was a bit unusally.

If you are talking about the show at the Agricultural History Farm Park then no I haven't been to it. I have full intentions of going this coming year though. I think this past year it rained all weekend so I didn't go. Is it a nice show?

The Derwood show is nice small show run by a great group of folks. They even feed us slobs that show on Friday evening. We could sure use more people bringing stuff to display since there is a lot of room. You're right about last year. It rained the entire weekend.

Hopefully the weather is better this year. I have maybe 10 or so tractors I could bring (couple trips but I live close by). I also have this New Friend sprayer engine I would like to show off!!!
