Default Gaar Scott Shaving Mug

Everytime I post something here, I kind of worry about what some of you bidders must be saying about me for posting these here for everyone's attention.

This French made Limoges shaving mug 150305482855 has a Gaar Scott side mounted engine pictured and is real neat. It has 17 bids, but I won't be your competition with it at $555 already.

Gary, what you have there is a personalizied "occupational" shaving mug. I found another with the similar "figure 8" mark and they were seeking a $800.00 buy it now. I do know here that shaving mugs in general can fetch 2-300.00 at the right auction. A elderly friend had a collection of about 200 before his passing. His family kept the finer ones and sold off the bulk of his collection at auction , and in some cases doubled or tripled his per unit purchase price. I found a web auction site with a gathering of occupational mugs.

Time to stop shaving, and put the mugs away, but then one would have to buy a mustache cup, and they are getting pricey too. This is due in part to the fact that new auctions goers cannot distingusih the difference between a shaving mug and a mustache cup.

Robert,
I have an old shaving mug and I have a mustache cup. Maybe I could get the Chinese to put a Reeves steam engine on each of them, and sell them here with a $800 buy it now, each?

Gary, you could be right, although the G-S one, appears more authentic than the ones on the auction site I mentioned. The art work appears very amateur. Artist of the late 19th. century that were doing such work, were extremely talented individuals. I am not familiar with Limoges marks, I have seen a great deal of Limoges china serving pieces at auction. It does not attract much interest, often not complete sets, and often very late 19th/early 20th centuries.

On the subject of china, Beleek [Irish] is something that remains very collectible and very pricey. Again it is matter of knowing their marks [not sure how many there are] as one can come across very new Beleek pieces. These are not repros. just new.

My favourite form of early artwork would have to that, that appears on agricultural Victorian trade cards and equipment catalogues.

Must go put the razor away.

Robert

Use a shaving mug every day, even while at steam shows.
How can I get one?

That's quite alright....I shave everyday, but not with something that's going to cost more than $800....
