I have tried posting the same picture in two forums before and it wouldn't let me. Check out the Model gas tractor thread in the model engineering forum.

I was down at the McCormick farm last fall in Va. where the 1st reaper was made and have some pictures of the models of the reapers on display there and here are a few of them.Anyone that would like to see where it ALL began as far as IHC needs to go down there and walk the path that Cirus walked and see the rock that he used beat the metal out on,the creek he threw the metel in to cool it and the anvil he used to make the 1st reaper.I can put more pictures on here if anyone cares to see.

Wendell,

I have also been to Steele's Tavern, VA and I am not surprised that you describe it pretty much the way I felt. Just walking around the old shop and looking at the forge and anvil just was awesome. Of course my wife didn't quite share the enthusiasm I felt, but she tolerated it all the same. It's amazing how many died in the wool IH collectors have never taken the time to visit the place. Even ones that live in the area. It's very low key but well worth the time.

Mike A.

P.S. Seeing your Mogul on the window shelf behind the Chapter #6 table brought back fond memories of Lebanon! Seems like I offered to haul it home for you.

Here are a few more pictures of the site the reaper was invented in Va. I collect 100th anniversary of the invention of the reaper memorabilia and in one of the books it talks about the ROCK that was used to beat the metal on by the creek and it shows a picture of it as well as the spot where the reaper was put together ouside between the blacksmith shop and the creek. You TRUE RED IHC collectors have not lived til you have walked the stone path that Cyrus walked from the creek to the blacksmith shop.Enjoy the pics.

Dad had an 8/16 Mogul, shelled corn for several years with a 2 hole Sandwich, only have a few pieces now, cast iron scraped, out in WWII, wish I had it and sheller now..... I almost had a Deering reaper but junk man and I got into it so I backed out and a good neighbor got it. Back to the Shadows of Buffalo Bill.

Just love these models, and the factory made ones a really special! Watching the History channel last night on steam shovels, there was a very original looking model steam shovel sitting on a counter behind the narrator. I wanted to reach into the TV screen and pull it out to play with--probably weighed several hundred pounds and would do some damage to the back trying to lift it

Here is a video of the little baby Mogul running. I have had lots of requests to fire it up .It has been sitting on top of my China cabinet since 1990! I recorded it running so I can leave it on top of the China cabinet. Enjoy Wendell
