Hello All,
I recently purchased an original parts manual for my Hart Parr 18-36. While turning through the pages, I stumbled upon a unique option that was offered for Hart Parrs in 1928. There was a lighting option available in two forms - Road and Farm. The only difference I can find is the Road option comes with a rear tail light. I am curious if anyone has an original light kit on their tractor? I have scoured my resources and have not found any to have it. I see in the parts manual that it uses a K-W High Bar generator as a power source. It is belt powered but I have no clue where this would be connected on the tractor. The only logical thought I have it that it gets connected to the fan shaft. If anyone has any thoughts or information on this, I would love to see it. Especially pictures. |

I’d try running it off the flywheel, that will give you enough speed to run the dynamo and be easier with the belt drive. It will make a nice addition to your tractor

I had that thought too but the belt that is shown with the kit (9888G) would not be long enough to get around the flywheel. Also Im not sure where the unit would mount in that area...
Other thoughts? |

Looking online I have seen one. Google image search, hart parr 28-50, there is a picture of one with a light kit. Sorry I don't know how to post that picture here.

OK. I have found the picture. great find! not sure that this would have been original unless the 28-50's had a 2 head light option that was different than the 18-36.
I have seen one carcus of an 18-36 in a junk yard once and it had a head light mounted on the cross bar that connects the fenders and holds the air cleaner. it was mounted on that bar on the belt pulley side which would make sense to me. too bad the whole front end was gone so there was no other information on how it was powered or things were mounted. the Issue I have with this 28-50 is one of the head lights is right where your belt would be running. so not sure if it was original or "farmered up" to work at night. |

I retract my statement! I see the high bar on the tractor and it looks to be powered off the starting hub! that could work.

The 1930 18-36 I sold to a friend has, what I believe are, factory light brackets bolted to the fenders as well as wire clips across the fender brace.
A lighting generator is driven from a pulley on the cranking/counterweight hub as you figured out. I'll post some photos shortly. I had a 28-50 that had the belt pulley already on the hub. I mounted a later KW lighting generator (continuous output magneto) on a canopy iron and used a big Bosch and Lomb spotlight for a light. It did a good job lighting the way too!...... ![]() I still have that light. For the record the lights on the 28-50 in your photo are, indeed, "farmered up".

So my search continues for information on the lighting for this tractor. I recently purchased an original sales catalog and it had these photos in it. gets me a little closer but would still like information on the original head light option package.
if you have any pictures of a hart parr with lights, I would love to see them. Thanks for the help |
